  • Men are from Mars and women....

are said to be from Venus, but it struck me yesterday that fans of different teams have equally incompatible views of the world. As stated my brother and I drove up with a couple of Palace season ticket holders and talking about the game in the pub afterwards it was as if we had been to see a different game.

(It wasn't helped, I admit, that just before we met them after the game I said to my brother "be gracious, remember what its like to lose in the last minute, we've been there often enough" but as soon as we saw their little Palace faces we couldn't help but break out into a spontaneous rendition of "that's why we're top of the league").

Anyway, they said they couldn't even hear our support (hard to believe as it was incredibly loud where we were as shown on the TV highlights) and were surprised how few of us there were. Also said we hadn't looked nearly as good as Burnley when they had come to Selhurst (even tho' they had only drawn). Said if it wasn't for our two "big lumps" of centre halves we would have lost easily. One grudgingly said Derry had been "alright" but was essentially "just a fetch and carry merchant" when to me he ran the show and did the job of two or three men tackling in midfield. Said we won because we were "big and strong" (a team that includes Tabs, Buz and Hogan). And so on. No recognition of how we ran the show, looked a different league to them in the passing stakes, how brilliant players like Walker looked in comparison to their muppets.

But then maybe our perspectives are equally biased. Yet I'm still buzzing - my brother and I both thought that was one of the best games we had been to in ages (in terms of excitement, atmosphere, competiveness etc).

    Sore losers!!!
Other than the first and last 15 mins, we ran the show, DESPITE having arguably our best midfielder and playmaker out injured (which is never mentioned in the media -- clearly they have no idea how good AF is).
And our defending when Palace attacked was masterful -- they only scored because they'd done their best to put Gorkss out of the game and nearly succeeded, and he was still struggling.
Faurlin is my hero!!! Love him!!! #########

I agree, although it is fair to say they prob had the better chances even though we bossed the midfield. It was a weird game like that.

Horrible deluded little fans can't stand their shoddy club, really wish they went to the wall in the summer and nothing would make me happier to see them relegated this season.

I have never know a group of supporters who believe they are bigger, better and more supported than what they actually are.

i always think it is almost impossible for opposing fans to see a game in the same way when emotions are running high.

Palace supporters are deluded. They really think they are something. So glad we turned the mugs over.

the amazing thing is they say they are so big but then afterwards in the pub I said "Ok so its widely accepted that our two greatest ever players have been Rodney Marsh and Stan Bowles. Who are yours?" The reply? Ian Wright and Jim Cannon! I mean, Wright was a good striker but his glory days were elsewhere. It would be like us claiming Crouch as a Rangers legend. Or Ray Wilkins. Its not where they were big stars. As for Jim Cannon - he was just some big gadget who made Ernie Howe look comfortable on the ball. Didn't like to say anything to these Palace fans but just thought "you really are a two bob club, aren't you?"

Even Wenger cannot see a game objectively
how do you expect the fans to?

A think a point would have been a fair result. They had some good chances but we ran the show in the 2nd half up till last 13 minutes....but they score and then we dominate again!
