I remember a discussion on here ages ago about the initial price rise in ST's and someone posted that they saw Ali Russel before a game and they had mentioned the price rise and how unfair it was that fans who had been going for ages were priced out, his response was something like he did not care about the ones that could not come, he cared about the ones that could.
These are the kind of people running the show and they don't really care who is sitting on the seat, as long as someone is.
I grew up near the ground during 70's (ie when we were good). I'd say no more than 20% of local kids I knew supported and went to Rs. Rest supported "big" London clubs or Liverpool/Leeds/Man utd (though most didn't actually go to games).
Back then there was eff all else to do.... nowadays urban kids are obsessed with knives, facebook and chicken - I'd be surprised if more than 1% of local kids even like football.
