  • Do we overrate the championship?

I noticed quite a few fans defending the championship in an earlier post and some even said that they would be happier if we stayed in the championship.

I do think regarding quality it is an overrated division. IMO I would say it is much closer to league 1 and 2 than it is to the premier.

Watching a 2nd string man u side beating a strong scunny team 1-5 with 10 mins to go just shows the sheer class difference. Most of this difference is upfront. Man u have been clinical. I know this is an obvious post but all I'm saying is I would choose quality/entertainment over effort/entertainment.

I think with the quality we have in the side, I really would be disappointed if we didn't make top 2. The championship games on sky have given no real indication of many sides that have quality in this division. Compared to last season it is a much weaker division.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Competitive wise this years Championship is gonna provide more options on who will finish top 6.Wide open for the playoff places at the moment.Unlike the Prem when the top 4 is almost always a formality.

Quality may be poorer in ability, but it makes up for it in excitement.

cHAMPIONSHIP is about passion ,entertainment and unpredictability , premiership is about cash and survival

not many leagues where anyone can beat anyone, always seems to be surprises each week.
Agree quality is a tad poorer but the sheer fact of so many teams competing at the same level makes it compelling.

yeah good points u 3, I have throughly enjoyed this season and maybe us struggling in the premier isn't good for blood pressure.

I don't recall anyone saying there wasn't a gulf in quality of the football between the leagues. Posters were demonising the greed at the top, the monopoly the big teams have and the lack of morality of the league.

The Championship as one poster highlighted is like the old Divison 1, its a proper Saturday at the football, you'll miss it when its gone.

In the Championship, and at the top, there is a feel good atmosphere at LR.If we got promoted and struggled all season at the bottom the atmosphere would be poor. The ground would also attract many casual fans who only wanna see Arsenal,Man U etc..

              Swings and roundabouts really.

truth is, i love the championship and being in it has never bothered me. the premiership is souless and all about chelsea and man united now.
BUT, getting up, even if only for one season and taking the big money and parachute payments that goes with it, and secure financial stability for this football club and then trying again to get up again after releagation would suit me down to the ground.
id go up and down ad infinitum for life and die a happy man. (tho of course it would be bloody nice to be a villa, everton or spurs again)

Harsh on Scunny as it's not been comfortable. That scoreline flatters United massively. Scunny have looked great going forward, and Manure have their 'keeper to thank for this not being at least level on scoreline. Also, this league is definitely closer in calibre to the Prem than it is the the lower leagues. And this 2nd string side boast the likes of Michael Owen, Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown, Anderson, Park, Hernandez, Rafael, Obertan and Bebe, so it's hardly a weak side. It's a side full of top level internationals and establised Prem players, so it's to be expected.

I do agree that many over rate the league as too many would struggle in the Prem. Some of our fans seem to think we could break the top ten with our current crop which is laughable. Comparing us to Birmingham and Sunderland is way off reality.

to be honest I think our younger fans will get star struck by the likes of liverpool, man u etc coming to LR. I remember hating united when we were in the premier now I just hope they stop chels cum winning the title each year.

I feel along those lines as well.Nice to go up for a season here and there. The rubbish kick off days/times are a hassle and paying £50 a game is not my idea of fun either.

Yeah fair points Benny but that my point. Man u scored 5 goals from 6 shots.

In the championship defenders don't get punished as much, and I think shittu has found that. The quality in the final 3rd is a different level and that is why I think the championship is closer to league 1. You look at leeds and southampton, teams struggle to bounce back up.

it's going to be an interesting call if we get promoted, as to what ticket prices are set at.

Can see a load of PR spin about spending on the team and so on to justify a £10+ increase on tickets.

Then ending up doing it on the cheap and coming back down.

stan I would take a 10 pound rise. I think the 50 pound a ticket will be closer to the mark unfortunately
