Stainrod used to take corners with the outside of his foot, Cruyff-style. Not a skill you see much of these days.

the guy was a legend in my eyes - every bit as good as Marsh or Bowles on his day - opposition fans hated him & he loved it - never really got a chance after the ruck with Mullery

Dunno if my memory is playing me up but I think I recall Stainrod getting into the Ellerslie road stand whilst there was an injury on the pitch to someone else and he sat next to a fan who had a pint of Guinness in his hand and Stainrod took a couple of swigs whilst waiting to take the throw in!

love Venables, QPR to Barcelona, then england in 96, as good as it gets.

My Stainrod claim to fame was when he sat on my flag (An RN Ensign) while waiting to take a corner at Leicester away back in 80 something

Nodge , Stainrod did play for us again after the Partizan game , the last game I remember Stainrod playing before being sold to Sheff Weds was the League Cup quarter final replay defeat against Ipswich at home when Stainrod and Russell Osman were sent off early on the game for fighting when we were already 2-0 down .

I think Byrne was the more skillfull player , but he lacked Stainrod's confidence

The overhead kick against Cardiff was a special goal , but I always remember the equaliser aginst Middlesboro at home in the 3rd round of the cup at the start of our run to Wembley in 1982 .

I named my goldfish after Clive Allen and Simon Stainrod. (True). Stainrod died after 6 months.
