Stainrod was a very good forward...and he knew it! I think he tried to join the elite club of QPR flair players and he succeeded.

One memory of him was that he used to comb his hair in the pre match warm up! Vain as anything. Him and john byrne were 80's icons.

John Byrne was a better player imo, although I was to young to remember stainrod I seem to remember Byrne.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

I think byrne was better too.

He wasn't as cocky as stainrod was. Byrne and stainrod often came across as lazy and selfish players but both had the ability to turn a game on it's head with a bit of individual magic.

I remember seeing him score 2 goals against Cardiff (maybe FA Cup) at home, One of them a great overhead kick. That was the day we were petrified at White City Station when cardiff fans came running down the platform slapping everybody in sight. People were running down the platform ramp to get away. Must`ve been 80/81 maybe 82?

Remember that so well (the brilliant goals, not Cardiff's fans as frankly Cardiff back then were just a two bit little club from wales)

yeah well I only remember John Byrne. Bannister was incredible on the plastic pitch but best striker is Sir Les and he was a complete striker who didn't need a comb.

Les was great but I actually preferred watching Rangers in the Bannister/ Byrne and in particular Allen/ Stainrod days - for pure technical ability, flair and organisation then we were 20 years ahead of our time and why for me Venables - whatever he did later - remains a genius.

Blimey, some great names from the past. Stainrod, Bannister, Byrne, Allen, Sir Les. All great stars from the past also Weagerlie, Goddard , Givens and Bowles
I blew a lot on vodka and tonic, gambling and fags. Looking back, I think I overdid it on the tonic. - The one and only Stanley Bowles

I was on the flight back from Belgrade when Stainrod starting singing "Everybody Happy, lalalalala!" - Mullery went ballistic, lunged for Stainrod and Gregory had to pull them apart.

Never played for us again after that - sold to Weds for £550,000 - considerably more than we paid Oldham for him. Great player - so far better than Byrne.

Stainrod , Byrne, Bannister oh to have those days back - best football I've seen since the 1975/6 team. Although you'd be hard pushed to beat the Allen/Goddard partnership!!
22nd February away v Charlton is the 40th Anniversary of my support of QPR and my first game. Away v Chelsea 3-3 23rd Feb 1974. 40 years of pure magic!!

I didn't realise he was a footballer. I just thought he was an ex mod from this site.
