same as, last season a few times i posted threads saying how well he played or how i thought he was turning into a good player. and every time the majority of posts in each thread were how they didnt rate him etc. same as when we got t smith, that thread for team selection and people started saying in there replace hogan with smith definitely for the boro game.... why!? the boy is playing well. dunno what people are watching sometimes.
In the past he has drifted out of matches. Thought he was doing that on Sat then actually saved his best for the last ten minutes or so. He needs to keep it up. That said, didn't think Tommy Smith did anything to challenge Hogan for a place in the starting line up.

Well Smith only came on in the 80th minute. Did you want him to work miracles in ten minutes in a team he has never played with before?!
Although it is also fair to say that prior to this season he hadn't really improved in almost 3 years at the club.
People who were dissapointed with his progress and performances were not wrong at the time, but I am sure everyone is pleased to see him improving.
It is also fair and accurate to say that (with the exception of when he first came in on loan) he has never really been given a good run in the team in the correct role/position.
When he first came he was used well and impressed - when he came back and we went through a series of managers Hogan was overlooked and confidence, match fitness and the like went.
He has a manager that wants to play him in a role he likes, he has had a good run of games, including a full pre-season where he played well and the confidence is right up there along with his fitness and desire to win.
Good news and a very worth while member of our squad, as he always has been IMO.
He's been excellent this season not motm on saturday imo, but was very close.
That's funny as he was MOTM??
I still agree with Jeffro. Prior to this season he has been half decent at best. Really picked his game up this term so far. Remember though its a marathon and not a sprint. I'll be happy if he plays well on his bad days. There is a lot of confidence in the side at the minute. I just hope as a team we learn to deal with the bumps quickly this season. We wont win every this season so how we bounce back as a squad will be important.

Tommy Smith hasn't played proper competitive matches for quite sometime. Reserve football isn't the same standard and that showed in his very rusty performance on Saturday which is why he started on the bench.

Oh yeah, agreed, wasn't having a go at Smith. Just saying that he is going to have to up the tempo to dislodge Hogan on this sort of form.
