MYU - If anyone has complained about the perforamnce on transfer day i think they are in the minority. I for one veiwed the site at work without logging in as it easy a quick to browse.
If you change this for either of your options you will risk losing viewers, as fans will soon use othersites and in my experiance a few will stay there.
For the sake of 2 days a year, i think you should leave it alone and anyone veiwing should just put up with it, as no one builds or restricts something for 2 days a year, you build it for standard use.
I wish I had seen this earlier. I can see that MYU was just trying to get you guys clicking more on the ads we have, mentioning the alternative (a user fee) as red herring. Some fishermen over by another lake were only too happy to catch that one. Tut tut. We are going to keep WATRB free, there is no other way. Just click on the ads, thanks
Sorry... did I say we were going to charge members, I left some options there and also asked for your feedback, one option that will not cost anyone a penny, clicking on the video advert which should pay for the extra ram and it can remain open free for all that way. Also remember this site is not operated by a company, we have to find funding for it, every website does.
We are not going to charge to use this site and we never wanted to and that's the reason we installed those video adverts.
This might not sort the problem out because people will just login to the site, or the other option is charge £1.00 to access it for months July & August, which leaves us with another problem, we would have to keep the extra ram for 12 months and works out to £360 a year for the ram on top of what we pay already. We would need at least 360 members to pay so we don't lose anymore.
Hi Michael, I never said I didn't sugest it but I didn't say we were going to do it.
Below is my post.
As you all know this site seems to struggle during the last few days of the window closing.
Every QPR fan who visits the forum knows that we struggle during the transfer window or a major event at the club.
We will disable guests from viewing the board and you will have to login to view the main forum.
The idea above was taken from a member of this site, for those that are not to bothered will not login, which then would mean less people on this site and less chance for the site to go down. There are many football fans website which even today you can't view unless you login, we will only be doing this for those months and if you really want to read it then logging in is very easy.

OPTION ONE
Stopping guests might not sort the problem out because people will just login instead, it's free to register and we don't charge. When this website went down for a few days last year we didn't lose any members and if our viewers do go onto other sites then it's a good thing, I don't see that as a bad thing, our doors will remain open unless they are banned.
OPTION TWO
or the other option is to charge £1.00 for the two months which would pay to upgrade the ram, this would then mean the site should not crash (go down) for those months, I'm not 100% sure if ram is our problem, this is what advice I'm getting and also that I need to get someone to look at our database that could also help. They charge £60+VAT per 30 minutes and I don't have that kind of money, I can just about pay for this site and I'm happy doing so but can't pay anymore extra per month.
In order to upgrade the ram we would have to pay an extra £30 a month on top of what we pay already for 12 months, even if we charged £1.00 for those two months access we would still make a big loss, it would make no sense doing this unless we charged a yearly fee, which we don't ever wish to do.
We don't ever want to charge anyone to use this site and we want to build a site that will last a life time, not just for us today but generations. A QPR fans site built buy fans and owned by fans that in future will fund it self, that's our goal, no one says it's going to be easy but worth trying, another year or two and we'll get there.
OPTION THREE
The next option is for you to click on the video advert above when ever you see it each day and the money will go to wards the ram/upgrades, each click does add up and help to wards the running of this site, it's the only way we can keep this site free at all times and charging a fee is our last option.
This is the only option that would work if viewers clicked our adverts, it would mean the site would remain free to use and we would pay for the extra ram, if we made £30 then that's the ram paid for without having to pay any extra out of our pockets, so it would help.
The forum would remain as it is and we also raise money for charity, it's not costing us any money to click the adverts, even if everyone clicked on it once or twice a day it would make a difference.
If we wanted to charge a fee we would have had the setup last year, it's not what we want from this site and it's a fans website and a free one for life but we need to do something to bring funds in to help pay to wards it, one where we all don't have to pay out of our own pockets.
OPTION FOUR
Any other ideas then do let me know and we will look into it.
This clearly stats that we have not made a decision and only asking for feedback in case one of you has a better idea that could work for this site and all our viewers.
I make that four options and I'm sure there are plenty more out there and the reason I asked.
We want to keep it simple and easy and all I'm trying to do is prevent this website from going slow and crashing at the point when we all want to login most. I was trying to act now so we'd be ready before the next window opens and you know someone will say "Why is it not sorted yet".
At the moment we'll just leave the site as it is and if the site goes slow or dies on us then we'll just have to live with it, no big deal, we expect it now and it wouldn't be WeAreTheRangersBoys.com if it allowed you on without trouble.
