  • The Premiership's 25 Man Squad Rule

    - Clubs register a squad of up to 25 players, which must include at least eight 'home-grown' players, at the end of each transfer window.

    - Home-grown players do not have to be English; home-grown players are defined as those who "irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to 21st birthday"

    - Clubs can supplement squad with unlimited number of players under the age of 21.

    - Changes can be made only during transfer windows, although in exceptional circumstances (eg goalkeeping injury crisis) moves could be allowed.

    - Players loaned to Football League clubs cannot be replaced, but can regain their spot on return to parent club.

    - Rules apply only to Premier League matches, not European, FA Cup or League Cup action.

    - First deadline is 1700 BST on 1 September (24 hours after end of August transfer window).

    Wolves announce their squad: http://www.wolves.co.uk/page/News/0,...141382,00.html

One notable absentee from today's announcement is Michael Kightly.

The winger has suffered a minor setback in his recovery from problems with his patella tendons, and, as Mick explains, will continue his recovery with "no pressure" and the prospect of going out on loan to be ready for a possible squad return in January.

"We're just going to let Kights get on with it," the boss explained. "He's still not quite ready to come back and there's no pressure on him - it will take as long as it takes. "There's no time limit on it either.

"When he is fit, he won't have played since last November and it would be very difficult in that situation to go straight back into the Premier League. "So when he is ready, we'll be able to discuss with him the possibility of going out on loan, which he can do before we have the chance to revise the squad in January."

West Brom & Wolves announced - Names not in squads - Luke Moore & Michael Kightly

Be keen to see if Anton Ferdinand is in Sunderland's - IMO he would be a superb loan

        WBA announce their squad: http://www.wba.co.uk/page/News/0,,10366~2141617,00.html

The only 'over-21' players currently at the club who are not listed and ineligible for first-team duty are striker Luke Moore and keeper Luke Daniels, who had a season-long loan at Bristol Rovers cut short by injury in July.

Thanks SirPie - this information and thread will be more interesting than the whole saga of yesterdays transfer window finale even allowing for our quality bits of business.

We could do with decent cover at LB.

Obviously Jason Roberts would be fantastic, but not sure if NW wants to play 4-4-2.
And Roberts wouldn't come here to sit on a bench. Nor Hulse.

Maybe Warnock is a 4-5-1 man... or we were only playing one up front because he didn't have 2 good enough at CF?
The current system suits Taarabt much better... but the option of 4-4-2 is one we could do with.
            As saturday showed.

I think we're ok in midfield, especially with Rowlands on the way back.

I think the quality in this league will rise dramatically when clubs start to forge relationships with prem league teams for the loan of some of there squad, its always been a hard league to win, but now i think along with the physical side of the championship the quality of player will enhance the quality of the championship to.

The only option these players have to get a regular game is to move to our league. They can't go on loan to another Prem Club.

And there are some seriously good players available.

The fact that Roberts didn't get signed by a Prem team leaves him with only 2 options.
Stay at Blackburn, and not play... or go on loan to a non-Prem club.
                We'll see.

I haven't really looked at players in other positions, so not sure on names... but one player who is available on loan is Patrick Van Aanholt from Chelsea. Young, quick Dutch left back, who did very well at Coventry last season, and almost joined us before he went to Cov. I think the state of our club at the time put him off.
Just an option, off the top of my head.

There are plenty of others, and we're in a very good position to take our pick and compete for one or two diamonds.

I thinks we should loan Roberts but then hold fire and bring in 2nd loan depending on when where injurys take there toll and where we are short for cover. Left back does seem very light as I think legs could cover right bck.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

He's under 21 so even if he isn't selected in their 25 man squad he can still play.

Agree with you but isn't he covered by age? Don't know but I'd guess he is under 21?

He is still under 21, but Sheffield United have enquired about him, and I think he's available.
                            Regardless of the 25 Rule.

I was just thinking of a decent pacy left back... but I'm sure there are others who are over 21.

Ok thanks - interesting to know. I suppose there is nothing to stop under 21's from going on loan if the managers have the guts to let them rather than keeping them on the bench as emergency cover. The Dutch lad was a name I got quite into last year and was disappointed when it didn't happen. Still, all these things happen for a reason.
