  • Website crashing yesterday

We'd like to apologise to all our viewers regarding this website going down on the last day of the transfer window, when this website reaches a peak of about 500 to 600 people online it will crash.

Although we have our own dedicated server it seems we may not have enough Ram which could be the problem, in order to install a 1Gb of Ram, it will cost this website an extra £30 a month more than what we already pay, raising the server costs alone to around £140 per month. We are unable to expand the memory for one month only, otherwise we would.

In order to help towards these costs we have provided you with two video adverts along the top of the forum. We provide this website at no cost to you funded out our pockets and we would like to continue to do so, all we ask in return is to help click on the video adverts everyday, when ever you see them and at the same time donate to charity as well.

Clicking play on the video advert on the left is to help pay towards this site and all future upgrades.

Clicking play on the video advert on the right is to help raise money for our two supported charity's, QPR in the community & Kiyan Prince Foundation.

Press play on the video adverts everyday when you use this website that's all and enjoy the site.

MYU - I sell Ram in big volume, my main dealings are with the far east this is why i moved to Dubai due to the time zone, Ill happily get you what you need, i reckon ill be able to smash the cost and Ill get you free delivery. Can even work out something on the payment if you want to stretch it over the season. I was thinking this yesterday, as if we are in for a good season we could reach this problem again.

if you tell me the specification and qty im sure i can sort something out

Is that 600 registered users that were logged at various times during yesterday or does that include the many others that were just browsing the site ?

Either way it doesn't alter the fact that we should all be trying to remember to click the adds every day but for future transfer deadline days could it not be possible to limit those accessing the forum to only registered members ?
      We got our Ranger's back!

I did suggest this but I think they just want to beat records.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

I think what he is saying is they rent the server rather than Co-lo hence why they are being ripped off big time for the ram (1gig or ram costs b-all these days)

The mistake yesterday was to concentrate the threads into one, it makes the D'base have to work much harder and presuming the d'base is on the same server rather than in a seperate one which is why the memory got eaten.

We broke our own record yesterday and that was around 862.

Probably would have been higher without the supporters trying to get in, that could not

What you should really do to overcome the issue is to host the forum or in fact the entire site with something like Amazon Web Services http://aws.amazon.com/web-hosting/

Its virtualised hosting and you pay for the data transfer, the beauty being because its a distributed cloud peaks never effect service plus your running of Amazons backbone so you wont have server crashes or ISP outs, worst that can happen is a database crash

Problem is I can build systems myself but we pay for the server and I am not able to upgrade the ram myself, they have to do it and charge extra per month, it's a rip off because months ram would pay it in one go, this is how they make their money. :(

If we can make this extra money then we'll just pay for it, it's far easier, instead of moving servers again like they suggest.

I do need someone who can look at MSQL database, incase it's something to do with that, this company charge £60+VAT per 30 minutes to look into it. :(

It's for all members and to only allow members would mean lots of changes which would get confusing for me but will look into this again.

I could have my own PC as the server but I can't have my PC on 24/7, would cost so much.

Cheers for that link, will look at this tonight.

MYU, but it would cost less having your own pc as a server than the costs to upgrade the ram surely?

That's very true but I'd worry the PC being on 24/7 365 days a year in my home, I'd also have to have a back up PC as well, what happens if the PSU set on fire and I'm out?

If I used my PC then we'd never crash.
