I've read people saying that we've only got points against the weaker opposition so far but how are we doing in comparison to 2009 against these opposition?
2009/10
Barnsley at HOME - Won 5-2
Sheffield United AWAY - Drew 1-1
Scunthorpe at HOME - Lost 0-1
Derby County AWAY - Won 2-4
P4, W2, D1, L1, F10, A6, GD+4, PTS 7/12
2010/11
Barnsley at HOME - Won 4-0
Sheffield United AWAY - Won 0-3
Scunthorpe at HOME - Won 2-0
Derby County AWAY - Drew 2-2
P4, W3, D1, L0, F11, A2, GD+9, PTS 10/12
Most importantly our points difference is 3 better than last season plus we've scored 1 extra goal, conceded 4 fewer thus meaning a much better goal difference, which included 3 clean sheets compared to zero against the same opposition.
After 4 matches last season WBA and Newcastle had won three and drawn one so they too had 10 points as had Birmingham and Wolves in 08/09.
If you further compare our record this season with Newcastle's record last season and against the same opposition we are a point ahead having gained a pointed a Pride Park whereas Newcastle lost 3-0. They too beat the other three teams. As for WBA, well they too drew at Pride Park 2-2 but they failed to beat Barnsley at home (drew 1-1), they also failed to beat Sheffield United at Bramall Lane (2-2 draw) meaning that against the same oppositon at the same venues they achieved just 6 points out of a possible 12.
