  • My first match of the season

Missed the first game as I was away and didn't bother going to see the PV game as I knew we would field a crap team and lose, so today was my first time of seeing our new look side.

Overall VERY impressed with job Warnocks done this side is a far cry from the performances we were putting in the last half of last season. The new signings have all improved the side.

Today we were by far the better team, was a very professional performance, always looked dangerous going forward and looked moroe solid at the back than we have for a long time!

Kenny - decent performance overall, I seem to remember him making one error but can't remember what it was, fantastic save with the 1 on 1 with about 15 mins to go deserved the clean sheet just for that!

Orr - great signing, I've watched Bristol a fair bit as used to live not far away and always rated him as one of the best in the league. Proved today what a good player he is, good defensively, good going forward and good in the air as he proved with the goal. Great cross for Helguson as well.

Hill - solid, was sceptical about this signing. He's not gonna set the world alight and he's not the quickest so will have trouble with pacy wingers but he knows how to defend and an improvement on some of the dross we've had in this position in the past.

Connolly - great game today did everything right probably the best of the back 4! Now is his time to step up and claim a spot in the team.

Gorkks - Not a bad game today I still think he's a bit error prone, twice today he made absolute clangers which against a better team would probably have cost us 2 goals. The first a really underweighted back pass and the second he went for a header which he didn't need to go for and completely missed the ball. He needs to cut these out otherwise it will cost us in future games.

Derry - superb, again I was sceptical about this but this could well be the signing that makes this team, he's never going to win all the plaudits but his work rate is superb and he's constantly breaking up play, talking to players, and generally being a nuisance, basically this is the player we were missing last season. Fantastic decision by Warnock to bring this type of player in.

Faurlin - good game, he's one of the most consistant players and has come on leaps and bounds since he started for us. His tackling and breaking up of the play seems to have got better think he knows that his role along with Derry is more one of controlling the midfield than juts bombing forward.

Mackie - had a decent game, ver similar player to Ephraim really, works hard, quick, think he will definitely score a few for us this season. Will have to see more of him I think before forming a proper opinion.

Ephraim - has definitely improved, had a decent game and his pace and willingness to run at people is always dangerous. Hopefully he will continue to get better and better for us and his work rate is always good. Could do with just a bit more cutting edge to his play.

Taarabt - genius, absolutely superb signing, was so chuffed when we got him after watching him last year. People just can't get near him, and he ran the game again today, didn't have his best game imo and was still head and shoulders above the rest. The first penalty shout was a dive no doubt about it and he was silly to go down because he was past the defender. The second one IMO was a stone wall penalty, think the ref just went on his reputation and earlier dive when he decided to book Taarabt and not give the pen.

Helguson - had a good game, won a lot in the air and held the ball up well, scored a great goal. However still don't think long term he is the answer, he missed 3 good chances, the header from Orrs cross which he put straight at the keeper, the diving header in the 2nd half where he didn't even make contact with the ball and the open goal where he put it over the bar. He is certainly playing better than before his loan spell and I hope he continues to improve, if he keeps scoring i'm sure his confidence will go up but IMO we need to strengthen up front before it becomes a problem rather than after and I think Neil knows this.

Leigertwood - looked solid when he came on and is a very good squad player to have covering right back and the midfield.

Buzsaky - good to see him back, looked lively when he came on and think he knows he has to perform in this team and that his place isn't a given anymore.

German - didn't really get a chance o do much only had a few minutes.

Can't really decide on a MOM I think the whole team was superb today, we look like a proper top level Championship side for the first time ever, not just going forward but defensively too. A couple of strikers before the window and I would be amazed if we don't finish top 6 this season!

    You R'sss!
