QPR are back in for Blackburn striker Jason Roberts – only this time on loan – after missing out on Jonathan Walters.
Boss Neil Warnock admitted he was ‘gutted’ after missing out on Walters, who has opted for a bigger pay day and the Premiership with Stoke instead.
And he has now turned his attention to Roberts, who priced himself out of a permanent move to Loftus Road earlier this month.
Hoops manager Warnock was adamant he would avoid loan deals this season after juggling with six during the last campaign, but now sees the move for the 32-year-old frontman as expedient when it comes to fitting final pieces to his jigsaw.
He said: “The closer it gets to the transfer deadline, the more players will want to play rather than kicking their heels in the reserves.
“The players we want are expensive, but it could be a case of working something out that suits everybody before we commit ourselves to a big fee and massive wages.”
