Newcastle are above us in fees paid, but that was only for 7 transactions.
That puts us 10th in the division on average spend per transaction.

That puts us 10th in the division on average spend per transaction.I played sunday league football today.
Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.
I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.
We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Players, quite rightly (if the agent is good) use agents. These are complicated contracts and agents alongside their lawyers do a good job for them, if they are scrupulous. A good agent will have a team around the player including people like financial advisers, personal support (often from ex-professionals), lawyer, pr person etc. An agent doesn't just tout a player around to clubs. They sort out sponsorship deals, local appearances (often for charity and mostly for free), they will find out which clubs might be interested in their player who might otherwise miss out, they have a network of people in the game to go to if needed for various reasons, they are a mentor and listen to problems the player may have...
Any professional sportsperson, artist, musician, actor etc has an agent. It is extremely hard to do all the jobs yourself whilst you get on with whatever itis you do. Also, having an agent negotiate for you also should get you a better deal and should take a lot of any argument and anger away from you. So if you want a better deal and the club aren't happy about it, your agent takes much of the flak and you can get on with playing etc. I kind of protects you from the heat of it all, protects your relationship with clubs/hirers.
We all know there are rogue agents and bungs etc, but there are also good agents who care about their players' welfare and actually do a good job for them.
I find all this furore about them ridiculous.Last edited by Stedders; 19-08-2010, 11:14 AM.
