  • Oh dear (just back)

As my friend said upon leaving the ground: "Neil Warnock didn't give a **** so why should we". Indeed.

But then again, losing to Port Vale is a never fun experience (I still remember bloody Carl Griffiths!!), but the ignominious 3-1 defeat to the Valiants was simply terrible. It was even more galling that we were at home too - where in the past we've crushed lower league opposition, and meant to be confident after hammering Barnsley on Saturday.

On the good points, we looked a far better side in the second half than in the first, but then again, Port Vale were 3-0 up by then and cruising.

Leon Clarke missed two good chances - in between Port Vale hitting the bar - and then Port Vale put away their first and second goals with us looking completely at sea (not a bad metaphor if you consider the conditions out there). German's goal was well taken. That's about it.

And the bad points? The defence was bloody awful, with Fitz Hall getting carried by Matt Connolly (although to be fair, he did do some good things in the last couple of minutes). We lacked at right and left back - Borrowdale and Orr looked yards off the pace and poor. Kenny wasn't at fault for any of the goals, although he again looked suspect from corners.

The midfield? Well, this is going to happen if both Faurlin, Buz and Taarabt are out of them. Liegertwood fancies himself as a creative player - but isn't. Derry tried the usual "running around bit" but his eminent distrust of Legs meant that simply passing to Mr Creative like he would to a Faurlin and Taarabt meant that he had a poor game. Ephraim put a lot of effort again but again struggled with his first touch, and Josh Parker was perhaps the best player. Ramone Rose came on and looked a tricky player, but he was a little too lightweight. Having said that, he seems to have a pretty solid future (although I have a feeling we've said that before!). Oastler came on and did little to excite.

Up front, let's hope today's game is once again a signal to the board that WE NEED TWO STRIKERS. Sure, the service lacked, but Mackie and Clarke looked under par today, and only did things improve when German came along. However, you can't fault Mackie's efforts - he put in 100% again today with little to show for it, apart from a terrible shot late on that nearly went into the Upper Loft.

    Onwards and upwards indeed.

Warnock got it very wrong tactically tonight. We were virtually playing 4 2 4 no one seemed to know where they should be playing. Port vale had so much time and space in midfield it was embarassing at times. Derry was virtually on his own in the middle third of the pitch. legs was woeful. the front 4 seemed to reluctant to track back. how many times was orr left trying to mark 2 if not 3 players!

Spot on, thought that too, don't think there was any real intention to win the game, once the subs were announced.
