  • porto valos memories..........

for me three games against em are stand out........one ,a 2-0 midweek home loss to em...think ainsworth scored for them in our first season back in the old div 2......less than 8000 there and no one in the school end......second the unforgetable 4-4 up there on a gloomy sunday......the 2-0 relegation defeat was one of our most guttless displays ive ever seen...over 3500 r's up there and the players bottled it.........unlike us.......

The 4-4 game was unreal and I will never forget that.

That 'relegation game' up there was proper lively afterwards. Remember one of our mates getting bit by a police dog! He still has the marks today!

We also played there right after our first game at Stoke's new ground when it all went off outside and the locals were not too happy!

I was there again about 4 or 5 years ago for a cup game and there was about 100 of us there. We lost as usual. Marc Nygard put us in the lead and Warren Barton had a mare that night!

I just hate the city of Stoke!

There was a great 3-2 win for us at LR a few years ago, just after carnival on a tuesday night i remember. I think we were 2-1 down too.

What do you expect from people from Stoke???

Have always gone in that pub just down the road as it bares left.

In that relegation game. Anyone remember that Rangers fan who just ran out of our stand and ran towards the Vale end on our left to take them on! Very funny!

It was that Carl Griffiths who cupped his ear to us when he scored! Little did they know we weren't going down!

Was at all the games that HammersmithR mentions but must admit I nearly left at half time which many did when 4-0 down that Sunday

Loads of fighting when we lost 2-0 and I saw a police dog get a punch on the nose from a well known figure at Rangers even today and it seems to kick off when ever we visit either Port Vale or Stoke since that day

I too was at all of these and the 4 all remains a good memory. But my everlasting memory of just how poor and uninterested the Rangers team of the time was comes from the relegation dogfight, 2 nil game where we had thousands up there. Not one Rangers player showed any passion before, during or after that game and the only person who did was of course the Vale player = Simon Barker who came over to us after the final whistle to gee us up and show how much he cared about the state of the Club. Simon was only ever a half decent player for us but was a loyal servant and showed more passion for our CLub that day than anyone in our squad and for that reason alone I will always have a place in my heart for the man.

Was at all formentioned games. 4-4 was a funny day running bk up the road with onions and tommy sauce dripping off our chins from our greasy hot dog..

Facto were you there the day when we had a mini bus & slipped off unannounced then quietly returned to Vale's top boozer 3 hours after the game for a 'friendly pint'

                      What a day that was...

like loads others nearly left the 4 all game early. remember one of our black lads getting a good hiding in the bookies up there one year.
