      I'm sure we lost 3-1.
Same day as David Pleat doing a silly run across Maine Road after Loontown scraped a win at Man City to stay up and relegate the Moss Side Mancs.

      Irrelevant, I know.

It was deffo a draw, 2-2 or 1-1. I was 15 years old, went up by train with my mate, we had a right touch, found 65 quid on the underground on the way, but we were gutted cos Grimsby sold no beer on the day in the ground. Brilliant atmosphere too

Just checked Gordon Maceys excellent book and I stand corrected.

          1-1 with Stainrod scoring.
I'll claim getting mixed up with 2-1 defeat at Burnley 4 days earlier......at least that's my excuse.

Thought it was 1-1 with a torrential storm in the match. Went off outside and there was a wedding reception in the street that got caught up in it. We were in a mini bus and met up with C-Mob in a disco pub in Skeggy, was a good night. The locals hadn't worked out there were about 80 of us in there, then when the whole pub started singing 'Oh when the R's ' they got a rude awakening.
            RIP: Doug, Sniffer and Pat

1-1 with Stainrod scoring from about 35 yards, chipping in, the only player using common sense in horrific conditions, had game had anything on it, it would have been called off.

Kit, you are spot on with your recall of the game, we were losing at half time during very heavy rain, but the heavens really opened at HT. Players came out for the second half to a pitch that was two-thirds under water. Stainrods 35 yard lob actually got stuck in the lake of a goalmouth and there ensued a mass scramble with players from both sides trying to get to the ball first with a few ending up in the back of the net with the ball infront of the Rangers supporters. The game was probably not called off as it was the last game of the season. Happy days.
