Taarabt was outstanding reminds me of the Wegerle debut at home to Luton many moons ago......

Heidar got the first nice penalty but missed two sitters (probably would have scored both in a Watford shirt) still need a striker....

Paddy Kenny clean sheet however post and bar saved him twice and nice goal line clearance by Heidar after Paddy came for a cross and it went through his fingers under no pressure.

Derry covered ground and played very well....

Orr & Hill my word what a differance having a couple of good full backs make both played well....

Hall & Gorkks ok ...Hall scored but his distribution at times was poor

Hogan i thought he had a poor first half but second half played very well linking up the attack....

Faurlin played well with nice passes...

Mackie scored from close range played well...could be a great signing for us...

Subs Parker came on looked good

German looked scared....

Mikel came on done ok....

Overall second half was better than the first, still need a striker not sure where Buzsacky was.....??? Anyone know??

Barnsley probably deserved a goal but looked very poor think this might be there season for the drop....

Great team performance today,not quite sure if we were that good or Barnsly were just ****.

However that takes nothing away from a fine effort from all 11 players and the 3 subs,it was 4 should have easily been 6 and apart fom 3 good saves from long range shots from their keeper even more, that is not to say it was all 1 way traffic,they hit the post and had 2 or 3 other half decent chances.


however today was all about us and if we show the fighting spirit and movement we showed today we could have a very good season.

Players marks

Kenny 5 Looked a bit shakey on crosses and does tend to come out of the area quite a bit

Orr 6 not overlly impressed at first but got better as game went on,loves to bomb forward.

Hill 6 solid start

Hall 7 decent game and rounded up the players at the end to acknowledge crowd.

Gorkss 7 good solid game,.

Derry 7 Looks about 70 but is a real tough *******,just what we need.

Ephraim 7 put in a good shift.

Faulin 7 little quiet but is a class act.

Mackie 8 This bloke could be a little gem,never stops trying.

HH 6 Gets in great positions but finishing is terrible,if his finishing was good he would score 25 goals.

Tarabbt 9 Pure class, can take the **** out of opposition players but works hard for the team,buy of the decade.


Subs Parker, Legs and Germaine 6 came on when game was over, but looked fine.


Crowd !3,400 odd, bit disapointing but got right behind every player.

This is what i thought of each individual player:

Kenny - Not great, dropped a catch under no pressure and it almost cost us a goal. Also in no mans land when they hit the post

Orr - Very solid, i was impressed by him. Crossings quite bad though

Gorkks - Very good, brave (always went into headers and wasn't afraid to get hurt, head bandaged early first half)

Hall - Very good in the air and a finish that showed helguson how to do it. Distribution poor

Hill - Solid performance, impressed me a lot

Derry - Good, not sure about fitness as he was took off at 70 minutes

Faurlin - Good, had a go at taarabt for diving and passing was top notch as usual

Ephraim - Quiet first half, second half he beat the right back and put in some great crosses

Mackie - On the opposite side to hogan. I am very impressed by this lad, he did not stop running the whole game, he has bags of pace and his work rate is second to none. Him and hogan got in behind the defence time and time again and created countless chances. Can see why he can be called a headless chicken though. Just missed out on motm by a fantastic taarabt

Taarabt - What can i say, brilliant. Pulled the strings the whole game. He literally took the p*ss out of barnsley, they did not know what to do with him. Cut in after a bit of skill and the ball skimmed the post after he rifled a shot in and it narrowly went eide. He won helgusons penalty after beating a few players with skill and helguson let him have the penalty because although helguson went down in the box, taarabt shot and the ball hit the net but during that he the ref blew his whistle so fair play to heidar. Fantastic buy, MOTM.

Helguson - I think he can be useful this season. Played well after he scored the penalty. Missed a sitter from 2 yards after mackie got in behind the defence and played it across goal (hall scored later on through an identical situation) and missed an easy header early on. His hold up play is ok but how is he 6 foot? He doesn't look much over 5 foot when he's on the pitch and he is very slow. Can we get a watford shirt under his rangers one? He would have scored those two chances for watford

Subs

German - looked sh*t scared, had an air shot when the ball came across him on the edge of the box for an easy tap in and mackie played him in late on, only for a cringeworthy touch that lost him the chance

Leigherwood - Decent, his power and speed was needed late on when he replaced derry. Still cant pass 5 yards though.

Parker - Felt sorry for him, every ball that was played to him was over his head, had a great run from our half in which a player tried to tug his shirt and pull him down but he shrugged him off and done him for pace, he then was tugged over by the same player again as he knew he was done for and he had a 1vs1 with the keeper if he didn't pull him down, the only thing that stopped him getting a red was that another barnsley player was in front (and to the left) of german so technically it wasn't last man but the other defender was not catching him

Overview
Good performance, they had there fair share of chances but we had the luck today. Still work to be done and we need some more players. Can i just add that our crossing was great. Mackie got in behind the defence time and time again (halls goal resulted from it and helguson missing a sitter) and he looked great. Hogan looks like a different player and he cut in and delivered great crosses that could have been finished easily due to the area they were put, a top striker could have got a hat trick easily with that service. We look so much more dangerous through free kicks and corners. Taarabt took them and put them in the right area time and time again, almost forced them into an own goal and a few chances resulted from them (a helguson header aswell) so we have more options.

We should have scored more than 4 and they hit the post, had a shot cleared off the line after kenny dropped it under no pressure, and had a penalty shout after a hand ball turned down. Although apart from this and the not so great finishing we played well. Good performance all in all.

Kenny - 6/10, OK but looked a bit shaky

Orr - 8/10, I thought he did well and will get better once settled in

Gorkks - 9/10, solid and brave

Hall - 7/10, OK but some of his passing was very poor

Derry - 7/10, OK made a couple of errors but generally did well

Look we won so you can't knock them at all really. We played very good at times, our pasing was generally very good. Hopefully our owners won't go back to their Champagne dinner thinking we are OK now because we still need 1 or 2 strikers. HH isn't going to score hatfulls unless they quadruple the size of the goals

I agree Kenny didn't have the greatest game, handling wise. He didn't have a lot to do. What did stand out was his command of the defence. He was always shouting at them, positioning them. Also he plays as a sweeper, and is it afraid to come out of his area to deal with the ball. We haven't had a keeper doing this for a long time. He will be a great signing.
