  • The Gamble In Buying Adel Taarabt

Like most fans, I am delighted we have signed a player of Adel Taarabt. On the other side of the coin, we cannot escape that players with his kind of ability come with risks.

We noticed at first hand last season twice a throwing down of a shirt and against Barnsley an indication that he could throw his toys out of the pram. I would imagine at that time he came close to going back to Tottenham and Warnock will have a job on his hands to get the Rangers faithful to stop booing him, in games where the things he tries to do, don't come off. First sign of booing Taarabt I am sure neil Warnock will go on those fans with a ton of bricks if the booing is audible, especially when he feels its unwarranted and counter-productive, which in itself will raise questions to the fans who feel its a good thing to do, booing a player we know needs confidence building and an arm around the shoulder. Can some fans refrain? I suggest it won't take many games to find out. This will define whether,we can keep him for one year or many years to come.

Its no surprise clubs in the premiership never took the risk, as he is a key figure in any team and most of the attacking football runs through him, many clubs will feel he is a luxury that they can live without.

Away from playing football he comes across as a shy lad, but a likeable one and whenever I've seen him personally its obvious all he wants to do his play football, but this season will be a pressure cooker for him and it will be interesting to see how he reacts. Like most fans across the country we are a fickle lot and its how he responds to that, which will define his season at the club. We saw too often a shrug of the shoulders or a petulance that you cannot hide when playing in front of 14,000 fans at home. He has the ability at such a young age to progress into a terrific footballer at a much higher level.

Warnock did seem to the get best of him, under Paul Hart you felt he was simply going through the motions, a little overweight and a reluctance to put everything in. I would imagine this was because he was dropped and felt un-important.

If Warnock can nuture Adel's natural ability and curb his attitude this could be the best signing we have made in 20 years down at HQ and Adel himself could be the difference in us being also rans or Play Off/Promotion candidates.

All we are missing now is a a couple of strikers who are proven at this level, something that has been described as "the icing on the cake" by the gaffer himself and if this has expected comes off, than I think QPR fans can genuinely look towards a very good season, which seemed unlikely a month ago.

Agree with most of this. But let's not molly coddle the lad. Part of his growing up is going to involve getting used to getting static. Best answer is to play well. Then he'll still get stick but from the right end of the stadium.
