Very sentimental as he wears 12 for France.

So who wears 9 and 10 for Chelsea then if Anelka couldn't have the number?

    That's right - nobody!

No-one has them at the moment, but Anelka signed a few years ago when they was taken. Players tend to keep with their shirt number if they have had them for a while. Just like Cook has kept 17.

Regarding Henry, I was talking about sentimental for Arsenal as he had it his whole career there.

Thank you at last. Someone with a bit of common sense who is making a big deal about who wears what number.

For someone who is big on everyone having different opinions, you are certainly a hypocritical chap when someone disagree's with you.

You are worried because of a number on someones back and are reading too much into it. It has nothing to do with being hypocritical it's about thinking outside of the box. If I've offended you then I apologise but if you think than the likes of Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea etc will pick numbers 1-11 to play the majority of their games this season then you are wrong. No difference of opinion or being hypocritical numbers on shirts mean nothing.

So what's your point? Those others I listed won't play because they aren't wearing 1-11? Or do we expect to see Cavalieri start for Liverpool this season. This is 2010 and not 1975.

Another little thought, wasn't Jay #23 last year?

Or am I just thinking very wishfully?

We are in a much better state than previous seasons and with the holes that are there I am sure we'll be adding. You really are turning into a doom and gloom merchant.

So you don't find the fact that Leon Clarke and Heidar Helguson have been handed #8 and #9 odd, when we are apparently after 2 more strikers, "the icing on the cake" type? The way im reading it is that no more strikers are coming in, so Clarke and HH have been given '8 and #9. If we had players lined up im sure those numbers would have been kept free like #2 has for Bradley Orr, Ramage has actually been moved to #22 for that to happen. We have #7 available which will be given to our right winger.

Don't often disagree with you SirP but I think you are wrong about the quality of this squad compared to those. Burnley spanked us three times that year (and another draw) and were a decent team. One of the best (or at least most attractive) I saw at Rangers tbh. Our squad hasn't progressed much since the team that played there. I haven't researched it (always dangerous when answering you!) but I do recall Blackstock scored in one and Di Carmine in the cup game and both of them have gone. Plus ledesema and parejo gone. Rest outfield will be more or less the same. We have added Clarke Mackie Hill Derry. I'd say that is neutral or worse.

And look at them and compare them now.... worrying if you fancy going up..

                                1 Diego Penny
                                2. Graham Alexander
                                3. Christian Kalvenes
                                4. Michael Duff
                                5. Clarke Carlisle
                                6. Steven Caldwell
                                7. Kevin McDonald
                                8. Joey Gudjonsson
                                9. Ade Akinbiyi
                                10. Martin Paterson
                                11. Wade Elliott
                                12. Brian Jensen
                                13.
                                14. Steve Jones
                                15.
                                16. Chris McCann
                                17. Gabor Kiraly
                                18. Alan Mahon
                                19. Jay Rodriguez
                                20. Robbie Blake
                                21.
                                22. Besart Berisha
                                23. Stephen Jordan
                                24
                                25. Adam Kay
                                26
                                27. Alex MacDonald

No big point to make - just that this squad as it stands can't compete with the top flyers in this league. Not even moaning about it - just a fact.
