  • In the first days of the takeover....

We all got carried away with the wealth that was branded about. The Billionaires the now run our club, who was comming in , new ground etc, but after awhile it was clear to me these men where not the Abramovich type of owner. Now as last year , some still believe in big transfers comming in WHY? It was stated we had £15m to spend where did that come from? It was clear to me the club is actually cost cutting not spending. Yet still on every message board you'll get some posters putting up names that would clearly cost the club money it hasn't got, its time to realise guys and girls that this little club will be run in a way that coincides with its turn over, then we wouldn't all get wound up when we sign the likes of Mackie and Clarke. they do spend money behind the scenes as well, that must not be forgotten, maybee we should all take a giant step back and reevaluate the situation at this club, and still all agree , its far better than before the takeover.

I don’t think it is better off.

It's clear to me too that we were never going to spend but I always find it funny that the moment we are linked to someone and there is a fee involved there is always an outcry about how much a player is worth. "£2.5m for Walters he's not worth that" then 5 minutes later "why aren't we spending any money".

Flavio spouted a lot of b ollox about us competing witih Milan for kings of europe but lets face it - Milan are in the shadow of inter at the moment anyway lol.

seriously though - Amit and co got involved 3 years ago this coming December, Amit also said that its a 5 year plan to get to the prem, he then said we would spend big when we got to the promised land, he said we will strenghten this term, which i expect us to do, i think we will get 3 players in before kick off then another 2 before the window shuts at the end of the august but they could be loans, we havent been lied to it was always a long term plan. They are not russians or Arabs, money is easy come easy go to those, many city and **** isnt sustainable as foolham proved to be after a couple of years of Al Fayed splashing the cash, they were hit with crippling debts. I think we will have a good season and I am happy with the long term stability and long term optomistic but i do think they will do it their own way, also i dont see warnock splashing stupid amounts of cash around for the sake of it, it does seem to me that we are bidding for players it does seem decent amounts but i dont think we will be taken for mugs. I would rather they take time on gettng the right strikers too, but we do need 2 desperately!

anyway i must get back to my pool and enjoy the rest of my holiday !!! you Rsss

The trouble is, it wasn't much of a plan to begin with.

I think people meant that £2.5m for Walters was too much because he isn't a goalscorer so shouldn't command that fee. People would have no problem with us spending £2.5m on Hooper or someone like that.

Its not that £2.5m is too much to spend on 1 player, but to spend that sort of money on another striker who doesnt score prolificly when we already have 5 of them seems a waste of our transfer budget. Spend it on a striker who will get 15-20 goals.

I thought Walters was a midfield player anyway, plays behind there striker, good player though by all accounts. This is just the point spend 2.5m on Hopper when we already have 5 strikers at the club, no way they wont unless players leave, the club just can't afford to sustain a ever growing wage bill.

And who created this wage bill, the club that's who. They didn't inherit it, they have nobody else to blame.

lol did they say 4? sorry thought it was 5!

to be honest last jan/feb i felt as low as I ever had as an rs fan the dream seemed dead but more importantly the club had no direction, no decent player or manager would come near us!

i think part of the problem could be some of the scars left from that period but we are recovering and recovering reasonably well! in my opinion

                      you rssssss

Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned Walters because that's not my point. What I am trying to say is that if we are linked with player x and the valuation is above what you, I or anyone else thinks we are all very quick to say he's not worth that but if the club don't buy player x or even player y or z the owners are immediately perceived to be tight.

There is a perceived transfer budget due to gossip but there is no facts that there ever was or is one and when we are linked to a player people assume that if we spend money we are either wasting the budget or have so much of the budget remaining.

Everything we read or hear is gossip and although it's fun to comment we really should just wait and see what officially is said because most of the time the rumours are just that and we really don't know the whole facts. We may well have a budget which we aren't spending because we can't buy the players we want. There maybe no budget at all unless players are sold. The truth is that we've signed a few players who aren't as bad as most make out and although we are still short upfront (no Simpson, no Taraabt and even no Priskin) Mackie and Clarke are better both statisically and IMO then the likes of Agyemang, Pellicori, Balanta and even Vine.

Anyway, I've waffled but my point is that we moan if they don't and we moan if they do. Instead we should have a little faith and allow the season to start and unfold and take it from there rather than day in and day out go on about why the club haven't done this, that or the other.

Agree, I decided a while back to wait until the season begins, look at what players we have in the squad, then we will see if we have a realistic chance of promotiom or not. If not then I wont get upset and let it spoil my season, I'll lower my expectations and enjoy what the season brings. Even as it stands we wont be relegation fodder.

If we were having this discussion in 2008 I would agree. As its mid way through 2010 & several managers & players later something, and I'm not entirely sure what, makes me disagree with you I'm afraid.....
