  • Anyone know what football style we've been playing

in these friendlies? Passing, hoofball, wingplay?

Having seen the video of the 1st match it seems that we are playing it on the deck. Mackie and Ephraim swapping wings and Helguson through the middle.

IMO I think Warnock wants to finish his career by playing football and being remembered for this and not for all of his past antics. I think being linked to the likes of Walters, Taraabt, McAnuff and Ambrose suggests that he wants to sign footballers and leave the dirty work to the grafters at the back.

He said during that TalkSport interview that bringing in some of his hard working cart horse types (my words not his) is allowing some of the footballers to shine in the right parts of the pitch - he cited Faurlin and Buzz as showing through in pre-season - so I expect a bit of a mix with the footballers playing football and the cloggers clogging - it could be an interesting combination?

Definitely you need the likes of Busquets to allow the Xavi's of the world to play. Just like you need Khedira to give Ozil freedom. I've no problem with the Derry's or the Hill's of this world playing ugly if it allows those around them to play freely.

Hill as a natural centre back can cover if the likes of Connolly want time on the ball and to move forward. Derry can sit back giving Faurlin and Buzsaky space. Mackie will run all day as will Ephraim and although neither are defensive masterminds they'll help out a lot more than Taraabt and Routledge would have done.

I dont care what style we play as long as we get 3pts. I can't remember the last time we won a game and I went home upset because of the way we played, but I bet there are some on here that would rather us play 'the right way' and loose 1-0.

3pts first and a good performance is a bonus.

Sums up the way I expect things to go next season and, interestingly, Ephraim seems to have benefitted more than most with the goals he has scored. irrespective of the opposition, he has to be in the right place and have something of an eye for goal to put them away - that is a positive for me and may just be the reason Warnock has stuck with Hogan over the general "board concensus" that old flappy arms is dire??

Agreed. I've said it before and I'll say it again - when we've won the Premiership, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League for the 3rd time in a row then I'll demand style but until that moment I'm just happy to see us win in whatever shape or form.

Playing it on the deck against the Western League's reserves is one thing. As soon as Ramage or Gorkss see someone like Chopra or Hulse or Earnshaw in front of them again, they'll be hitting the channels.

It's not just about being able to play, it's about being disciplined to do what is needed and not being scared to get stuck in when required.

The best example has to be Roy Keane. Arguably the best midfielder of his generation so nobody would ever say he couldn't play, but he sat and bossed the midfield dictating the play allowing the likes of Scholes, Giggs and Becks to have more freedom.

True. So can Khedira. It's difficult to think of a real quality donkey who is comparable to Derry. There isn't one hence why he plays CCC football and they play international football but my point was that you need ball winners and grafters who go about there business without needing the glory.

Ok I see, thought you was comparing him to Derry, my bad.

It is hard to think of a good dirty donkey....thats a good thing though as they are not spoiling the beautiful game at the top level.

Van Bommel didn't win many fans at the World Cup... of course he can still play a bit, but he fits the bill.
