I agree we are missing a striker or two thats 100% thats clear to every one.....Yes I also agree with out taarbat and simpson we are weaker at this present time, again my optimisn is in the belief these will be replaced...........Even without these two I still feel our squad will be competitive next year just from the confidence warnock will install in some of the players that have been missing for us previously.....Like I said earlier though I also believe we will have new arrivals soon which will give us more cutting edge...
sorry with the reference to players I wasn't actually trying to name the starting 11 or put them in order of positions, I was just trying to state what I believe they will bring to the team or how they will fare this year...

Understood. And fine. Seems we are all in desperate need of the Warnock "icing" so I guess we're all in pretty much the same place tbh. In summary that seems to me to be that we all agree that the team that Warnock's got will be better under Warnock than any obvious alternative manager but that the team Warnock's got aint good enough for him to pull off a promotion. Some of us fear it may not be good enough to stave off relegation but that will have to be seen.

I think that's spot on mate, I a good statement to make... Like you say were have to wait and see what materializes and see how the season goes from there!

warnock isnt the messiah, he cant perform miracles. with an average squad we are looking mid table at best. it wont be long before we are writing of this season

if we don't get 2 strikers either on loan or perm by the end of august then sorry to be doom and gloom but there is no point hoping for a top 6

Ollie and Blackpool last season, favs for the drop. A good motivator can get much more from an average player than a good coach can. So a good coach with great motivating skills can do wonders.

Spot on but it depends on peoples expectations the club once again have shot themselves in the foot and raised peoples expecations with talk of promotion and spending lots of money

I think we should look on this season as a season of stability with Warnock trying new things and building a squad if we finish in the top ten I will see it as a success

The problem is you will have people demanding instant success and going to games expecting to win especially at home

Agreed, everyone wants instant success but it rarely happens. If NW sorts us out into a decent, difficult to beat, hard working side finishing in top 10 then I say good. Hopefully by doing the above we would finish higher with the possibilty of play-offs.

The whole point is that we are all guessing until the season gets under way. I remember when we signed Simpson on loan, people were moaning about putting the onus on scoring onto the shoulders of some Arsenal reserve kid, he did OK for us, scored a few goals.
If we signed Taarabt tomorrow, half of this board would knock one out, the other half would say he's too much of a show pony and we need a striker.
If we also signed a "top" striker (you know, the mythical 20-goal a year man, the one that EVERY team wants) half the people on here would instantly KNOW that he's crap, despite only seeing him play on TV, the other half would hail him as the Messiah who would blast us to promotion. Fact is, nobody EVER knows how ANY signing for ANY club will actually work.
Prem teams buy players for huge sums of money, and some end up failing miserably, doesn't necessarily make them suddenly bad players, and it can work the other way-Stuart Wardley came from nowhere to be top scorer, then sank without trace.
I think we have a decent squad, but we do need to add to it.
I do think the Warnock factor cannot be ignored, he knows the score, and whatever players we have to start the season I am sure he will get the best from them
I will do what I always do-make an assessment after 10 League games, we'll know a lot more by then.
