But be patient it will take a good few years. Everyone wants a goal getter or a quality left back why aren't we producing players?
What's the point? What does an Academy deliver that CoE doesn't.
How many academies can you have in a 30 mile radius. Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Fulham, Reading, Palace and West Ham all already have Academies. The talent pool doesn't get bigger just because we have an Academy. Kids will still come to a CoE as they see they have a better chance of first team football with us rather than Chelsea or Fulham.
Despite his hi-faluting pronouncements - Simon Jordan's insistence that the Academy remained was the stone that very nearly put Palace into the abyss.
An Academy is a badge of honour if you can afford to sustain it. Palace couldn't and we couldn't if we chose to run a sustainable business model.
These things cost upwards of £25m to construct (probably more given land prices in west London) and due to FA requirements, the annual running costs run into millions (ten times more than a CoE). A sale of one player every so often (a Bostock, Routledge or Clyne) doesn't come close to touching the sides. IMO a vanity project that is unnecessary when there are alternatives if people are prepared to look at these projects in a considered manner rather than allowing ego to come in to it.

Clyne, Mosses , the lad that went to spurs whos name escapes me at the moment, they were shafted by the FA over that move but there financial position was NOT due to the running of the academy.
Liam O'Brien and Dean Parrett came through our CoE system, got us sizeable fees (over £1m for Parrett) and our youth sides regularly play their peers at the Academy clubs. It's purely vanity.

The Academy was a massive drain on Palace's resources and whilst not the sole reason for their troubles, it remained an unsustainable model of a club of their size and income.

Gates are poor but, dont forget we have a poor stadium, poor views, inforstructure, seating, even when we were doing well last season we could not fill the ground.....many people i know who stopped comming, have said not paying ticket prices to see half the pitch, uncomfortable seats, wast of time trying have a pee, or get a drink at h/t.They seek him here.................
