If you renew afterwards, you're only paying an average of £14 more, and that's a fact. Some people may be more concerned about losing their same seats than focusing on the real issue of working out the club's intentions as towards premiership progress.
Hanging on every word put out by the club, we paid dearly for the oft mentioned "four year plan" of challenging for champions league football. One year on and most of us are considerably out of pocket, and a mid table finish with an average team.
Yes, we had unforeseen long injuries to key players. But we also knew our stike-force was lacking, and no serious backup to cover for such eventualities. FB brought in the loanee players who had to play, there was talk of utility players, hence DD and PR playing as fullbacks, who took unfair stick for playing in unatural positions. Connolly is an exception but he is class anyway.
There was also the talk of not paying over the odds for players, which is quite right. But we saw other clubs signing the players that have got them where they are now, above us.
Flavio won't admit he got it wrong, but it's no big deal, we've all seen worse at other clubs. The simple answer would have been to drop the prices dramatically for next season, recession situation taken into account as well. It would have been seen as a proper understanding gesture.
Now what we have is - lost ST holders from last season, and probably more this year because of the prices. And because of that, there will now be another group of people taking a long hard look at our squad strength for this season before they commit to buying ST's. There's no queue at the ticket office you know too well.
And that's what we all should have been doing, looking at value for money for championship football.
I posted on here a couple of times, and was completely ignored, when I suggested doing a leaflet drop at one of our last home games, only, I repeat, only, asking for all supporters to register with one of the MB's. This would have given us the collective clout from more people, (not everyone visits the boards) to have told the club, drop the prices big time, we're not paying the same again.
I have to assume that most people were afraid to challenge FB in case he walked. The price rises only generated an extra £2-3 million over the whole season. 10,000 ST holders x £100 average rise? = £1 million.
No club that I know of have raised prices like we did on the expectation of prem football some time in the future. Why did we buy into it, me too unfortunately, it's unheard of, and it creates future trouble as we all know too well.
Why are we still blindly making the same mistake again? Are we too lazy to think we can do anything about it? The club have now created a position, where more ST holders will be lost if they don't see serious spending on players. Flavio has now got the cheek to bully us by saying, "if you invest in the club, we'll invest in players". Meaning, if you don't, we won't? This should have been the time for us to undo last year's dangerous precedent.
We know it's very hard to find quality players that will come to a CCC club. So it could take some time before we're a fully functional stable team good enough for promotion. We might do well next season, and we might not. I seriously hope ST takeup is so low, they'll have to reconsider prices again. And if not, and if you're still moaning about prices again, just remember, you could have done something about it.
