  • The Flip Side of the Argument

I've read recently lots of moans about one thing or another and I thought I'd raise a few points which may have not occured to certain people.

The argument is that if Agyemang or Helguson do well against the likes of Harrow and Tiverton that it doesn't account for anything when coming up against Championship opposition. That is of course true but the flip side of the argument could be that if Agyemang and Helguson fail to shine against opposition this could quicken their demise. Most (myself included) don't rate the pair and would love to see us sign some real quality upfront however Warnock appears to have arranged plenty of fixtures so that he can see all of players in action. If Helguson and Agyemang prove their fitness and between them score plenty of goals then he may believe then could still do a job for the team. After all neither were brought in by Warnock and both have time on their contracts.

A lot was read into the fact that Newcastle were thumped by Leyton Orient last season but as the season panned out it once again showed that pre season friendlies can mean absolutely nothing. If we thrash or get thrashed over the next few weeks it means little come August. Rather than worrying about the quality of the opposition we are coming up against we find ourselves in a situation where certain players will finally make their own bed for themselves. Warnock is and has always been the kind of manager to allow players to make their own mistakes and once they've done it enough it will be good byeeeeeeee!

I'm going to repeat w12_ranger's observation here because unfortunately most either ignored it or didn't see it. There are many players at the club who the majority want rid of but nobody has come up with an idea of how to get rid of a player who has plenty of years left on his contract and is extremely well paid. In fact probably so well paid that the only ones who could afford him are those relegated from the Premiership over the past couples of seasons but they have too much sense to buy such players. If we the club ever wanted to get rid we either have to wait until the contract is up or pay the contract up. By doing so you are either stuck with a player who's wages you have to continue paying or are left with a hefty bill to break such contract. For arguments sake let say that a player has 2 years left on his contract at £10k per week why would he walk away when he can pick up £1m for doing diddly squat? If Warnock has been given any budget and is then forced to pay off the likes of Hall, Agyemang, Helguson, Pellicori etc the budget would disappear quite rapidly.

Another reason why we may have arranged plenty of warm up matches because Warnock may feel he is stuck with some of the players that we the fans deem not good enough. Maybe he has had to bring in the likes of Derry and Hill because he doesn't have the money because he is going to pay off those mentioned. Or maybe I've got it all completely wrong and he's going to pay off the rubbish and spend some serious wonga on some real quality.

Either way (and I'll get shot for saying this) it is only July and the season is still a month a way so we might just have to wait and see. If the likes of Helguson and Agyemang are still at the club come the first day of the season and we've not signed any real quality then just like you I'll be angry but if this isn't the case then fantabbydozee!

I'd bet by the first game of the season Ageymang and Helgusson will be gone.

You know it wouldn't surprise me to hear that Warnock was sold the job by the powers to be (based on info no doubt provided by Paladini) that Hall would go to Newcastle, Helguson to Watford and Ageymang to Bristol City in the summer. Remember when I said that Warnock thought that Helguson had actually been sold to Watford when I was at the Platinum Evening. Imagine his surprise when he rocks up for pre season training, he seemed very genuine in his comments at the time.

The lack of any kind of educated response to this thread really just sums a lot of posters on this Message Board who seem only to care about transfer gossip without actually looking at the bigger picture. Time and time again posters are complaining about missed opportunities in the transfer market when what we could be paying out in wages to the likes of Hooper, Chopra et al we are paying this money to League 1 standard players instead.

To summise I do think at this moment in time Warnocks summer has been reduce by 40-60% whilst we still have the likes of Hall, Vine, Ageymang, Helguson even Cook still at the club.

So all there is left to do is thank the incompetent Gianni Paladini for leaving us in this position, well done son take a bow.

Excellent read, seems alot of people were expecting certain players to be gone, and still we are saying when, if or maybe.
Trouble is as mentioned it seems they are harder to get rid of than first expected, not many teams ( apart from us ) that will let crap players stay on huge contracts and add nothing to the squad.Seems we have to now rectify previous mistakes ( again ) before we can really move on.
Perhaps the actual icing on the cake is the owners will pay them all off when they are shown to be crap against weak opposition.

Part of me want to see these players rot on the sidelines because that is all they are worth.

With respect to a pay off I'd offer them a hundred grand each to **** off and tear up their contracts. If they don't leave I'd then make it public knowledge that they are mercenaries who only wish to pick up a paycheck and don't care if they play thus hindering their future prospects of playing for a decent club again.

SO sir Pie, taking your theory further... Agyemang and vine etc, play to their usual poor standards against Tiverton and Harrow, warnock has allowed them to create their own bed, come start of the season, they are still pants and still have their whopping contracts..

Always an interesting read youare, but I dont quite see your point.

Whether we wallop the pre season sides with PA & RW & HH scoring hatfuls or not, fact remains that we are still stuck with them draining our budget.

There is no escape unless they themselves decide to walk.

So in relfection there is only one person to blame for this contracts and we all know who this is.

                      Jeffro, I'm liking your angles

Remind me how happy you are with Derry, Hill and Clarke as you have made it quite clear your feelings on their contracts, who is responsible for those if they work/don't work? two different people, for two different circumstances?

As for Ageymang and Helguson, Blackstock didn't go until mid July last year, most players who are going are using this period to get fit and train. I'd expect movements out in next 2 weeks.

With regard to "getting rid" of Agyemang and Helgusson - you can always come to a mutually agreed conclusion to buy off the contract in the event of no buyers. Happens a great deal nowadays. Leaves the player free to negotiate a decent signing on fee with a new Club.

Problem is if the contract is so ridiculous long and well paid (hello Gianni!) - you can't force them out of the door. Unless you do what Chelsea did with Mutu and arrange a nice little sting operation!

                            How long is Mackies deal?

                            i'd say thats a risk...

I'm just to making the point in the football to a degree its gambles, esepcially in the championship. Sure if we had greater insight into all the other championship clubs, each team have a number of failures.

To a degree Tarrabt is/was a risk as not many other clubs would take him on, but last season he was the most exciting/infuriating player we had

                              Answer to your questions Petey,

No I am not really happy with the above signings, and it is clear they are Warnock signings, not Paladini.
Difference being they arent 4 year contracts on 15k a week.

The other crap we spoke of were paladinis responsibility.. and are an albatross aorunf the neck of the club.
