Unfortunately it's how they've been exposed to the game. I was only 10 in Italia 90 and only remember watching it on TV, seeing how it effected all the older members of the family. I loved footy always as I kid and only wish I was old enough back then to have really enjoyed it. Not the same when you can't hit the booze with your pals, watching it in a busy pub, not caring who the random bloke is you celebrate goals with...good times. 98 was the World Cup for me...the last one I remember where our players looked like they cared. Michael Owen scoring THAT goal against the Argies. Even when qualifying for 2001 when Becks scored the free kick to send us to the finals. Football has gotten greedy and that reflects in players performances.
I honesy feel sorry for the younger generation. I doubt they'll ever enjoy moments like that. Too many big time charlies in the game now.Your mum would love me...

yeah but its always been like that facto.why else would brian clough of not been made manager ?? in my book our national side aint the pinnacle of an englishmans career but the premier is,they are greedy no goods."The kids missed everything from Queens Park Rangers to Conkers".
London Pride has been handed down to us.
London Pride is a flower that's free.
London Pride means our own dear town to us,
And our pride it for ever will be.

I watched the DVD of "One Night in Turin" before this World Cup to get me right in the mood -- not bad but a touch "luvvie". The Gazza tears programme was the dogs danglies however.
I also felt a salty tear drop from my eye.
Italia '90 had EVERYTHING except the absolute pinnacle being the final.
I wept buckets as a 19 year old after that game - it made it even worse that the ball looped up off of Paul Parker, our rep at the finals.
If you ever get the chance then watch the whole 120 minutes and penalties again plus ITV's montage at the end of the tournament set to Nessum Dorma. Spine tingling.
You can sum the whole thing up between then and now in one statement from Gazza:-
"I'm no different to the unemployed fella at home in the local club - the only difference is I get to kick this stoopid football around on a Saturday doing the thing I love"
Stick that in your £100k+ a week pay packets you schlags!
We were pony going into that tournament only managing to qualify through Butch's blood and grit from the team.
Sir Bobby failed to build on the momentum of '86 when we fell upon a winning formula by accident and injuries / suspensions. The same happened in '90 but the players were more behind that.
As said by a poster above - I lived that tournament and being at raves hearing the Carabineri mix of World in Motion and seeing the place bouncing to it will live long, long, long in my memory.
You'll never stop me being English, you'll never take my pride - you used to say me and my friends brought shame on us for following our team home and away --- just look at you now, oh what a mess.I need some time in the sunshine, I gotta slow it right down.
