  • The Importance of having a Plan B?

If you were to run a poll and ask which managers are regarded as the world leading tacticians than Capello would come quite high up that list whereas Warnock wouldn't. Now if Capello has struggled to come up with a Plan B what does that say about Warnock's chances of doing so? If Fabio's failings haven't inspired Neil to start thinking about the what ifs then nothing will.

Having watched the likes of France, Italy and now England fail to offer an alternative to their one and only system it's vitally important that Warnock and Curle bang their heads together to come up with various options for all kinds of scenarios. It is far too early to talk about what may or may not happen but with the players returning to pre-season training in the next few weeks the manager has to learn from the international managers mistakes. Last season we had no Plan B. At times we had no Plan A. But we need to do our homework will we play the traditional English way and stick with a rigid 4-4-2 even if we are 3-0 down? Will we stick with 4-4-2 if we are 1-0 up? Our away record hasn't been great for many a season so how will we pick up the all important points on the road. Will Warnock have the players to give him options.

Lots of questions but while Warnock is putting together "his" squad he hopefully has already asked himself some of these questions. He may have an idea of which starting XI he'll go for come Barnsley but away to Sheffield United will be a completely different match. Whilst Plan A works great but does even Joachim Low have a Plan B? When the Germans come up against Argentina we will have to wait and see but a manager whether it's for lowly QPR or for Germany has to know what to do in all different situations. IMO Capello froze and thought that those players who got us to South Africa in the first place will eventually come good but they didn't and as a result they'll be on a plane home tonight. A domestic season is obviously different from tournament football but even after a 46 match season the league can be decided by the result of one match - Preston's drubbing of Cardiff springs to mind. A right decision here and the options available there could quite easily be the difference come next May.

I hope come early August that if with 10 minutes to go against Barnsley we are winning or losing Warnock has both the options and the tactical nous to do something about it.

Didnt look like he had a plan A, thought he was the worst performer of all the engalnd staff.

As for NW, i think thats one reaso why he wants a big lumpup front, so you can attack and change things during a game so the opposition dont have to just defend against the same attack each time.

Hopefuly there will be some qualtiy buys to go with the "frees", as this will help keep the whole squads feet on the ground, and not have a team of show poines running the shop
One for all.... and all for one

Unfortunately, I don't think Warnock has the technical nous to pull off something like that.

Plan A - Get stuck in there lads.

Plan B - Look lads, it's not working. Get stuck in there HARDER ffs.

I think any manager has to be preapred to change at this level of football.

The NPC will have teams which hoof it and teams which pass it so nothing can be planned for exactly. Why Capello felt he couldn't use any other tactic until our back was against the wall I do not know.

From what I saw I firmly believe Capello's refusal to use English style of play during the WC got us where we are now. Our game is 4-4-2 using wingers why people think we must play attractive European football on the international stage is beyond me.

Get stuck in and get those crosses in. 'ave it!
The future's bright...the future is blue and white.

Totally the opposite of how I saw it. He played an english style that was too rigid and didn't adapt. We need two holding midfielders like Barry and Carrick, and then more attack minded forwards with pace and skill.

Holland played with two holding style players this afternoon and no reason why England couldn't adopt the same.To say that England must stay with 4-4-2 is slightly strange as the premiership these days usually lines up with 4-5- 1...But i would not use eithe Barry or Carrick as i think they are both dog turd.

Anyway - ludicrous post to say that Capello didn't have a plan B....Our plan B was......to scare them with Heskey....

In some games Taraabt will have to start on the bench.Or he will get substituted and replaced by IE. Lean Clarke or another workhorse. That is at least a glimpse of our plan B.
