Egyptian striker Emad Moteab is in the sights of Portsmouth.

The People says Pompey boss Avram Grant is a huge admirer of the 26-yearold, who plays for Al-Ahly and can be signed for about £1.2million - money he hopes to have in the next couple of weeks as Pompey struggle to sort out their financial problems.

Moteab is playing for Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations but a move has been teed-up behind the scenes.

The Premier League have banned Portsmouth from buying any players until they pay off debts owed to other English clubs.

But Grant has been told by his bosses that the ban will be lifted soon and the striker is the first player he wants to buy.

The move for Moteab has been set up by director and former owner Sulaiman Al-Fahim, who has good contacts in Egypt and is trying to land Amr Zaki, the former Wigan striker.

Moteab is rated the better prospect and his personal terms should not prove a problem.
