  • England team for next game

What would your team be for the next game? Apologies if already done!

    Mine would be;

Hart (I wanted him to start last game)
    Johnson Carrgagher Terry Cole
Carrick (if Barry is still out?)
    Lennon Gerrard Lampard Cole
    Rooney

Playing 5 in the middle, means Lampard and Gerrard can bomb forward without having to hold. Milner got injured, so Cole should come in for him in my eyes.

Rooney had his best ever season by playing by himself up top, so do it for England.

When he plays with Heskey or another striker, he drops too deep picking the ball up in a position where Gerrard/Lampard should be taking control. By Rooney dropping so deep, theres less men in the box, making it easy to defend.

Heskey had a very good game and I really don't like Carrick as a holding midfield, if Barry is fit then there is an arguement to play him in that holding role but apart from Green and maybe Cole on the left I see no need to change or panic. We played very well against the US so lets all keep calm.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Against Algeria I feel we should be more attacking, and Carrick should be more than capable to do that role

Carrick has been very poor though, and has showed nothing to deserve a mention let alone a place, just my opinion on his previous chances to stake a claim. Heskey has not done alot wrong apart from miss a 1 on 1. Heskey will be way to strong for the likes of the algerians.

I can see what you are saying - but we have no other holding midfielder, which is why im saying Carrick. Id rather have a out of form carrick in there, to let Rooney play the role thats made him one of the best players in the world, and at the sam time, free up Gerrard and Lampard and let them do what they do best - attack.

Albeit Heskey did do well, but I think freeing up the other 3 players insterad of keeping Hesky playing should be a priorty

Carrick shouldn't be anywhere near the squad let along the team. Barry is fit and will start I reckon. Totally agree on goalie and joe cole. Goalkeeper divided england fans but green would have been most people's last choice. I don't know anyone who thinks that milner and wright-philips (does he ever have the ball under control) should play ahead of joe cole. I think capello will stick with green, and bring barry in for wqright philips.

I did say Barry if he is fit. I still think Parker should have come instead of Carrick, but its a whole different argument

Ingerland played very well? Was there another game against the USA I missed?

Yes their goal was lucky but they deserved a draw. It was a typical Ingerland performance. After much hype they stuttered with spells of looking ok and long spells of many players looking disinterested and not gelling. In all seriousness take away the hype and Ingerland are a pretty average side, good enough to quality for these tournaments on a regular basis but not to realistically challenge. No idea why. On paper we should be world beaters but I have been watching Ingerland since 1986 and in my view the only tournament I have seen where they sparkled was when Hoddle was in charge. One game aside Ingerland were incisive and motivated. If Beckham had not got sent off we looked good enough.

Dropping that unpatriotic imbecile Gazza was a stroke of genius.

Agreed fully, though I thought Venables had us playing in Euro 96.

Why you spell it like Ingerland?

US aren't a bad team these days. I thought we were better than we have been in most first games in major tournaments. The hoddle team you talk about lost to a poor romania side and beat tunisia?! Fantastic. We only looked good against argentina when down to ten men. We also relied on a wonder goal and dodgy penalty. This team is much better in midfield and going forward. My concern is centre back. I'd go for form and stick dawson in there. I'd also just have rooney up top allowing gerrard and lampard freedom to go forward like they do for their clubs. Against portugal in last world cup we looked good with this system.

We all see it differently! The Romania game was poor but my recollection is after that we played like we had been an almighty boot up the backside. Yes Owen's goal was class but we had a reall buzz and purpose about us that I have not seen since.

On paper we now have a very good side but they just do not seem to gel and play as a team. We look disjointed as we generally always do. Other teams seem to improve when they pull on an international shirt. We seem to do the opposite. Can't get my head around it.

Either way for me no sparkle. USA raised their game, we lowered ours hence I thought a fair result.
