You can't do that. It's called the World Cup for a reason. They all deserve a chance and for some nations, playing teams like England, Spain, Italy, etc., is the highlight of their career.

Leaving sentiment aside. Not sure what playing these teams does for anyone.

The "big" teams treat these games as one stage up from a friendly knowing they are hardly likely to be humiliated and bring on a load of fringe players who wouldn't generally bother their first team when the game is won.

And the minnows just get humiliated every four years and are lucky to see a point throughout their campaign. Not sure how proud a team of goat herders can feel getting thumped every time they play against a top nation's B Team.

Far better to bung all the minnows together for a pre-qualifying group where at least they might actually win a couple of games and give pride to their nation. If they are good enough they would have qualified through that and EARNED the right to play the bigger teams so will get their chance then. At least it would give them something to aim for. IMO.

Works for the F.A. Cup, doesn't it? No one complains about that. How many qualifying rounds does that have before the big boys come in?

LOL, but back to topic. Nigeria lost to Argentia, But they were not that easy to break down, with quality in every position.Two other African teams; Ghana and South Africa have already shown more than glimpses of quality. Ghana played some really exciting footie in my view.And South Africa did really show the world that they are worth a place in this tournament not only as hosts really. They handled the pressure in their first game very well, and played to notch fottie esecially in the second half against a sharp Mexican team.As I see it, Cameroon is the only team that seem to struggle. Early doors yet, but I strongly doubt we will see that manyRoger Milla celebrations this time. Playing EtoŽo in a deep position is a mystery to me.But today we will see how the Ivory Cost can cope with facing stiff competition from Portugal.Personally I wouldnt be too surprised if they beat them.

My conclusion is that European teams in an ideal world should start with points deduction. I say this due to their economical and cultural advantage

No need for this rudeness. I am Estonian and care about as much (little) about Russia as New Zealand football supporters would be expected to root for Australia the other night.
