    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although Heskey played well, I think we need to play with a five man midfield, with a holding midfielder to protect the back four who seem vunerable down the middle. This would allow Gerrard and Lampard more freedom to support Rooney.

I could be in a minority here, but I thought Crouch did as well as Heskey in the short spell he had on the pitch. The main difference is that Crouch can score goals too, Heskey can't.

heskey had a very good game...but i love how people are ignoring rooney's contribution. which was absolutly nothing by the way. people are quick to jump on green for one mistake (ok it did cost us), but for the rest of the game he was solid. why not jump on rooney for his part in the game? we might as well have had 10 men!

I agree 100%. If Heskey had done what Rooney done in that game, people would be saying "never play him for England again" and all the other rubbish. I say we stick with the same team (King obviously may need replacing)

kings out anyway. and green has to be dropped. he was like a mental patient before and all the way thru that match. hes not up to it. to not drop him would be the worst management descision in years.

Hold on...Heskey's miss was just as appauling as Rob Green's clanger. They both had very good games apart from that. If it's OK to excuse Heskey's p**s poor finishing, then it's OK to forgive Green for the fumble. I actually feel for Green on that. He's not asking to be excused, nor laying blame on the ball. But, if you really look closely at the slight change of direction the ball took, just before Green made contact, you'll see that he was very unlucky. Granted, he SHOULD have positioned his body behind the ball, but the flight of the ball was savage.

I'm not excusing his clanger...just poining out that if Heskey scored, we'd have won 2-1. Darren Bent could have won those headers and I'd have put my mortgage on him scoring that one-on-one. We always need a fall guy in this country, for club and country. Heskey's miss and Greens mistake cost us dearly, but at the end of the day, Carragher, Lampard, Wright-Phillips and Rooney gave us nothing against the ####s.

I dunno why they dont just start crouch...

IMO he can hold the ball up and flick on just as well as Heskey, and he can hit the net.
Cant believe it, ive been PWOPER MUGGED ORF...

what about milner, who cannot play for his country no matter what. and he certainly cant play for his country coming straight off the back off a 72 hour bug.
svens lost it, ive said it before and got flamed, and ill say it again.
the pressure of the england job and our consistently consistent under performing players has got him.

If you notice how terrified every single defence in the whole wide world are when Rooney is around you would respect him more. He ties up a defence singlehandly and creates an awful lot of space for Heskey and others(Lampard and Gerrard)
Against USA Heskey was played good by Rooney.
To be honest I think Crouch is a player that should atleast get 45 minutes in your team. He is a matchwinner.
What I also would like to see is more attacks from the your fullbacks. There were No movements in that apartment in the US match

Tiempo, tiempo, tiempo is the keyword against Slovenia. That will surprise them.

I agree Stan and as it's about opinions....If Heskey was playing for QPR - he would get slaughtered on here.

Week in week out this season...Rooney has scored goals for fun up front on his own.So why must he need Heskey in the side.

Heskey is so predictable and cannot score.Watch how mobile the 4 germans strikers are/were last night.Played ok - but is not going to worry any of the major teams in WC.

So Heskey misses a sitter but can play again...Green makes one **** up and must never play again.

One game in....and the knives are out...I love the World Cup when England play.

mistakes by keepers are a lot different to mistakes by strikers tho.
heskey isnt EVER expected to score by anyone, so a simple miss form him does nothing to his confidence.
a keeper is expected to catch a tame shot from 25 yards.
after that they are just thinking about it happeneing again and dont fully concentrate on the game in my opinion.
and it wasnt just the blunder, he looked like a freak on acid in the tunnell. no wonder they drug tested him.

He was quoted as saying, that had he taken drugs..he might not have let the goal in.

Fans/coaches opinions on Heskey are going to differ. My own personal opinion, Hart is the better keeper as Green has struggled in a poor Westham side. But i still think Green is a good keeper.Oh - and he did make a good save later on..

As for Heskey.....and again..just my opinion....he is meant to ne a forward and should be on the pitch to score goals as well as ..what ever he does before falling over. The better teams in this World cup and possibly prevuoius ones....do not play with a hefty lump up front.Even Drogba has nore to offer(spit sorry).
