Portugal will be defensively strong but they don't have the quality upfront to win. Like Rooney for England, Ronaldo can't do it all by himself.

The likes of Deco, Simao, Almeida and Liedson will have to have the tournament of their lives. Likewise could be said about Lampard, Gerrard, Cole, Heskey etc.

IMO Spain and Brazil are favourites because they are strong across the pitch. The likes of Holland and Argentina don't have the depth but both side could do well providing the first XI stay fit. Again same could be said about England.

I assume pretty well every country - apart from France it seems - is being hyped to the skies by overly excited football fans in their own countries. With the slightly mixed bag of players we have, many of whom have had a far more gruelling season than players for rival countries, I wd have thought the semis wd be a decent achievement.

I think we are good enough to win our group, and we are good enough to beat Australia, Ghana and more often than not Serbia. After that we potentially could play France or even Mexico and again we are good enough to beat either side. The problem for England is Brazil after that. In Doha their best XI struggled to breakdown our almost B side (Foster, Brown, Lescott, Jenas, Huddlestone, Young and Cahill didn't even make it to South Africa) so over 90 minutes with our strongest side who knows. Do I think if we can get past Brazil we can beat Spain nope. It's like Andy Murray at Wimbledon, fine getting past Nadal but he'll still lose to Federer (or vice versa).

your logic is sound sirpie, but the reason we all love football is that, because it is a low scoring game, the underdog often wins games.

If we didn't beleive that none of us would go to the cup games against chelsea etc.....

England are a long way from the best squad....most teams are. Spain, Brazil and Argentina have the best squads...none of those teams made the last final.

The d*ckheads were taking photos of the players rooms! The media in this country really f*ck me off sometimes! They love portraying this image that the report for the working man when they are all private school toffs who only started watching football when Roman Abramobitch turned up! To many so called experts!

For your information i am a press photographer and know a few of the guys who are out in SA at the moment. Your comment is incorrect not one of the guys, including me, went to public school and only take the photos. I think the people you may be refering to are the Media journalists, who write (& sometimes make up stories), we only take the pics so it is unfair to criticise us.
