£750,000 Kenny cash to be reinvested at Sheffield United
SHEFFIELD United will use Paddy Kenny's transfer fee to strengthen Kevin Blackwell's squad. The South Yorkshire club expect to pocket £750,000 when the goalkeeper formally completes his controversial move to Championship rivals QPR this week.
But, despite the disappointment caused by Kenny's decision to depart soon after completing a nine month suspension, United's board are poised to soften the blow by allowing their manager to re-invest the money received in fresh talent.
Although Blackwell is under strict instructions to reduce his budget, the fact that United had not planned on losing Kenny has seen him given the green light to draft-in a comparable replacement.
But with experienced deputy Ian Bennett also leaving during the close season, Blackwell could be forced to sign two new shot-stoppers.
Mihkel Aksalu, who arrived at United earlier this year, will be hoping for a chance to stake an early claim for a starting role when Blackwell's staff travel to Malta for a pre-season training camp next month.................
