I have one on each of my motorbikes. 1] a Kawasaki VN1600 cruiser and 2] a Yamaha XJR 1300, but not on the company car!

Does anyone know where you can get a QPR/England flag about the size of the ones on all the cars?

          Indeed I am. Are you?

I am only saying what many people think. They look cringworthingly awful. As for flag poles in the front of properties that is even worse. Thankfully we do not have any in our road. Every time I see one of those flags I have an almost uncontrollable urge to wind down my window and bellow 'ug, ug' at the owner of the offending flag.

All this talk of patriotism is nonsense. The main reason people have put these flags up is because the tabloids have told them to. What this World Cup means in terms of patriotism to most people is watching INGERLAND with a few pints in hand getting ratarsed. It has nothing to do with national pride. I am no different. What will happen is when INGERLAND get knocked out it will be a case of 'oh dear shame. Another beer?'

Now don't get me wrong I am not running this country down. On the contrary I believe it is the best place in the world to live and we are very lucky to be here but patriotism is a dying trait which is probably a good thing bearing in mind the increasingly global nature of society. In the wrong hands the use of patriotism can be divisive and dangerous in the same way religion can.

So by all means enjoy the World Cup but don't confuse getting ratarsed with patriotism.

One thing I don't care about is whether I speak for the majority or whether my views fit in a nice neat little box.

It can hardly be said people like me have brought this country to its knees. I work hard (aside from posting on here!), pay my taxes, give money to charity and help people when I can. This country in my view has been brought to its knees by the proliferation of the benefits culture which has not only cost the country several limbs but has led to increasing numbers of people who have no work ethic and think they are owed a living for nothing in return.

I am also English but above all am a human being (when not being a fox) and someones nationality means nothing to me. As for being silenced we have all been silenced in real terms by the death of any meaningful democracy, a problem we share with most other countries. Money talks louder than the man in the street.

The majority you refer to have to an extent been shaped by what the media shows them and the media is controlled mainly by those making money out of the majority. The good old fashioned maintenance of the status quo. Religion used to do this job, now it is the media.

And another thing I still don't like those flags. I note many of them have INGERLAND scrawled across the middle. Would that be because many of the patriotic majority do not know what the flag signifies without having it literally spelt out for them?

And another thing I have attended a few St Georges Days events and they are good fun, patriotic drunken singalongs. That to me is what patriotism means in real terms. It is a celebration of our peculiarities as a nation, of our history (ignoring the shame of some of the actions of the empire) and of having a laugh. It is not something to be taken seriously. Particularly with the increasing use of the internet we are becoming truly a global village and personally I like that.

too many people with political correctness tendencies have ruined the country as far as im concerned and imo you seem to be talking down to a lot of people who make up this great country. I agree that there does seem to be an under class emerging in this country, people with few principles and little intelligence but whats worse is people who sit on the far left and want to "help" everybody in this mish mash multicultural society we have here. And as far as having shame for this countries past i personally have no shame and nothing but pride....we should be more concerned in making this country great again rather than pandering to immigrants and the people that want to take care of them. If i knew who you was id give my flag a more aggressive wave as i passed your house

Flags and bunting all present and correct.
The only shame is that so very many more people do it for the World Cup than they do for St Georges Day - which gets seriously overlooked by English people who are happy to go and raise a glass of the black stuff for St P, just because it's a better lash up

My frustration with many of our denizens is they seem to accept so much at face value. I do not consider myself uber intelligent by any means but I ask questions, I think about things and then I form an opinion. This appears to be increasinyly rare.

My reference to helping people was not meant to be a sweeping declaration but more on an individual basis. For instance I spent much of the weekend with Mrs Fox trying to assist her disabled brother who unfortunately has become the victim of some harrassment campaign by local thugs. That said I applaud those who give up their time to help charities.

The actions of the so called empire were driven by the greed and ambitions of the rich and did little to benefit the common man. Indeed the common man often paid with his blood and how we treated many nations is shameful. However that is the past and it is not something I think about at all to be honest.

Immigration is a complex issue. Immigrants have added so much to our country and culture but the way immigration is dealt with now is baffling and dangerous. For genuine asylum seekers and those who can meaningfully contribute to society great. For the rest keep them in camps, process their applications quickly and chuck them straight back where they came from. Do not let them into society, give them benefits etc. Why have we allowed ourselves to become such a soft touch and fark their so called human rights?

Of course you do realise that lefties traditionally have stood up for the majority whereas the right wing have traditionally screwed the majority? Not that there is any irony in that of course or that most people have disassociated themselves from lefties due to a concerted long term media campaign against them thereby effectively being told by the media what to think to their detriment. For the record I am neither left or right wing, I share some opinions with both.

It could strongly be argued that lefties are far more patriotic than the right. However don't let facts get in the way of rhetoric. Muct also make all those nasty foreigners feel intimidated too.

I have seen people keep up their INGERLAND flags permanently. I pity the neighbours as it probably devalues their properties.
