      No he didn't to my recollection.

      Jim Gregory didn't want to pay what Oxford wanted so let Smith by Brock instead. Smith badly wanted Houghton and Aldridge but Gregory pulled the plug.

        hindsight is a wonderful thing. i can well imagine campbell and beckford flattering to deceive on trial back then, because they still do to this day to some extent. (also beckford took at least a season to really get going at leeds.)

        wanchope was a complete and utter balls-up though. i still vividly remember watching wanchope score at old trafford on his debut on motd and thinking "hold on, wasn't this the bloke we... "

          exactly - campbell and beckford at the time were basically as promising as griffiths was then, and look how he turned out. these things aren't set in stone.

          who else have we had from non-league in recent times? stuart wardley, adam miller...?
