For me it is:-
1. World In Motion - New Order
Absolutely love this tune - have both versions they released (the Carabinari remix) - and it will always, always, always remind me of probably the best World Cup in my living memory. One of my few big regrets in life that I didn't head to Italia 90 as a doved up teenager. Maybe it was my age, maybe it's my age now and wisty memories but have we ever seen a World Cup with that much excitement since? I could talk you through that semi final kick by kick and I actually still get a knot in my stomach thinking about that ball richocating off of Paul Parker and over Shilts'. Must get to see "One Night In Turin" --- nearly makes me want to put Nessun Dorma in my top 3.
2. Englands Glory - England Squad & Supporters 1970
I'm also a sucker for a bit of the old retro in football and this sums it all up perfectly for me. "we'll give all we got to give for the folks back home!" The B side to this is called Cinamon Sticks -- very mad. I was far too young to know about this 1st time round but like I say retro footy at it's finest -- all kipper ties and MASSIVE collars.
3. Three Lions - B/S/LS
This one sneaks in ahead of a few others again purely for memories. The actual tune does start to grate after you've heard it for the 4169th time in a tournament! The newer version with Jimmy Hill and Hansen talking BS does make me smile ".... and we'll go on getting beaten.... and we'll go on getting beaten..." Jimmy Hill - what a member.
I suppose really it should've been the National Anthem at Number 1 but you'll catch my drift.
Will anyone say the 10 german bomber song i wonder???
C'MON ENGLAND!!!
