Quality finisher but commentators don't ever seen to let this go and love forcing down our throats every time he scores a goal. "He flopped at United blah blah blah"

Scored goals for fun in La Liga for about 7 years now yet every pundit seems only talk about his time at United.

It also needs his nation to go past the group stages to really get noticed and I think the likelihhod of that being emerging nations is pretty slim this time round.

One to watch is who can fill ballack's shoe's - can they find a new tournament winner. Bayern's Schweinsteiger (sp) perhaps? Only a kiddie but him and Robben could be a better midfield pairing going forward than our own golden boys. I hope Xabi Alonso emerges as the real star player for Spain. He doesn't seem to get the credit he deserves. Schneijder doing well may not bew much of a surprise but if Holland get a run (and I think they will) he could get the golden boot.

I don't think Lennon will get a game tbh. I think that's wrong I'd like him to. But all signs are he won't.
Schweinsteiger is 25, so not exactly a "Kiddie" and im fairly sure everyone knows about him. As for Schneijder getting the golden boot............ this is ridiculous and will never happen. In a thread for unknown players making a name for them selves, you seem to have just picked out players that are already established as world class players. I personally think that Nani will kick on and really shine in this tournament

Tomboy - you are clearly having difficulty reading the first part where I explain that I don't think there will be any unknowns emerging just some doing better than expected. Clearly you are one who doesn't think schneidjer will do it. Thus perfectly proving my point

But you've pulled out a real plum. Who is this Nani bloke and who does he play for? I'll have to keep an eye out for this emerging talent. Perhaps Rangers could sign him now before anyone else gets wind?

There are very few "unknown" players is the globalised world and the ones that are unknown are unknown for a reason (ie not very good or playing in North Korea).

Football is now a mature global market where Hondurans, South Koreans, Ivorians and yes, even our antipodean and ####ee friends are all hugely high profile.

Stan - As people do not rate Nani, it would be a suprise if he came out of the world cup being one of the best players there.

I understand your post, but why comment when you are answering a completly different question to the one asked in this thread? Almost everyone in world football rates schneijder, as do i, it's just painfully obvious that he will be knowhere near the golden boot.

              Think about it stan.

Nodge - quite. The tournament will be reputations are improved or the opposite of that; Not made out of the blue. Cameroon are my favourite example of how much this aspect has changed- when they 1st hit the world cup it was a genuine eye opener. No one outside of Cameroon was really aware of Milla and co. Now they have names my non-footie girlfriend would recognise with Geremis, Eto'o etc). Now we can all sit and have a reasonably well informed debate about players as "obscure" as Marek Hamsik and Carlos Pavon.

The only place a surprise would come from (imo) would be out of the NZ team And even that might just be a surprise for me as I personally am not au fait with them outside Fallon Killen and Nelsen. Perhaps somes would even know the others there.

Of course you are. If you actually think New Zealand might shine in the worlrd cup, then you are more clueless than i originally thought. Unlucky Stan, probably best you keep it from now on

A thread about unknown quantities shining it the World Cup, turns into petty rows.

                      I do love QPR MB's

Tomboy - seems you have skill in not reading posts properly. I've seen it demonstrated elsewhere on this board as well. Try my comments on NZ again.

Stan - Seems fairly obvious to me that you think the only team capable of suprising you in the world cup is NZ, AS I PREVIOUSLY STATED. I would suggest you go back and read what you have wrote in this thread as you seem to keep losing track of it. Unlucky Stan, maybe next time.
