A plea for help update

You may recall I placed a thread a couple of weeks ago about an elderly couple in PU block who were having to give up their season tickets after 64 years of support due to ill health.
I wanted help in cutting the red tape & contacting the club to arrange -
a) Some flowers be sent via the Club for their lifetime of support.
b) The Club to contact the couple to see if anything could be done to arrange transport to an occasional game in the future, or perhaps invite them as a guest of the club, next season at least. Possibly via the excellent Community project.

Well I promised an update, so here it is.

The Club (Box Office Manager) has replied. Other prominent people at the Club have been copied.
They have identified the couple and apparently spoken to them about trying to arrange something regards next season.
So I'm hopeful something can be done and I'm assured I will get an update once something is in place.

So far, I don't believe any flowers have been sent, which is a shame.
So if anyone can help push that forward, I'd appreciate it. As mentioned before, I'm happy, indeed, want to pay for that, but can't progress it myself as only the Club have their personal details, and legally that's as it should be.

Finally, can I thank EVERYONE who replied to the post with positive messages. All those who PM'd me (Now I know how that works) and emailed me direct, offering help, advice & money !
I not going to name anyone specifically, but you all know who you are, so I thank you.
It's refreshing to see so many from the 3 msgboards I posted on finding common ground and agreement across the board - without exception.
Kinda reaffirms my faith in humanity....well, football supporters.....well, it's a start.

Why?

Because someone has picked them as a "cause celebre"?

Not denigrating the sentiment but if it's ok for one set of pensioners, how about all the others too. Or maybe other supporters who simply don't have the finance or 100% health to attend every week?

Whoah ! Stop right there friends ! (I don't know what Cause Celebre is, so I'm already out of my depth !)

I'm only trying to arrange a personal 'good luck' and asking the Club to acknowledge their lifetimes support. Be great if they had a day to remember.
Up to them what they decide to do......

Nothing heavy.
Good luck to ALL supporters, whatever their age, creed, colour, religion, weight, sex, etc. (Except the French, Cardiff or Luton of course......)

Appreciate that but wouldn't want to see anyone denigrate the Club if they chose NOT to do anything.

Hopefully not a precedent, I'd like to think similar gestures have been made in the past and the Club is getting great publicity (well deserved) for their community work of late. That doesn't have to be just for kids and those less fortunate.....Also half of my suggestion involves me footing the bill.

Do you think it would it be better if I didn't post a final update when I hear from The Club again ?
(Serious question, not being 'scarky', honest),
That way, no problem with anyone saying, "well you did it for them, why not these? ?" in the future.

No-one bitter and twisted and I don't mean to denigrate anyone's opinion or hard work and good intentions. You need to balance the fact that there ARE other supporters who have been season ticket holders and attending just as long and are just as, or even more deserving. I just don't think its particularly fair to pick and choose who the club gifts things to on the whim on any campaign. It's a slippery slope and just creates a no win situation for the club.

I've deliberately not mentioned names of staff or fans. So as not to put pressure on anyone.
I aim to pay for one part of it and the other part is just a suggestion.
It felt right to me. If the Club say "No", I'll think 'shame' and move on.

I'm not sure now whether I should post a final update, if and when I hear more.

Should we forget about supporter of the year? There are many folk out there hugely didicated to the club but not recognised because they aren't well connected.

If a situation arises where someones commitment is brought to the attention of the club and the club is willing to recognise it, so be it.

The club was represented at Goochies funeral, but not at that of someone else I know who was a similar supporter but not as well known.. Was I offended? No. would my friend have been? No.

Accept this is being arranged for the best of motives.

Yep IMO. If you're not connected, you've no chance. You might travel to every game from Outer Mongolia and fund raise for the community but if you're not connected you've no chance. Is that fair?

NB - absolutely no problem with the motives and as I've said in duplicate above unreservedly accept the good intentions. Don't think anyone has been offended either.
