I always thought it was 3 because the last year you need to sell the player, otherwise he ends up going for a free?

I bet you wish we had Fualrin on a 4 year deal?
Guess the same people would be saying to long before he signed?
End of the day you don't give players 1 or 2 year deals, they simply won't come. Good decision by WarnockALL BEST BANTER AND ALL THE LATEST FROM QPR.

4 years is 4 years. We have to pay the player for the 4 years. To argue otherwise is illogical. It's only in the last 6 months of your deal can you negotiate with clubs outside of your FA's jurisdiction for a Bosman transfer. All other times, fees are payable, though of course as with your car, depreciation sets in as the clock winds down on the deal.
That said, 4 years is far too long for a player of Mackie's ability, age and sell on value. IMO
