I've driven to Italy a few times. Not such a bad journey. Through France out to Strasbourg, bit of southern Germany, Switzerland and into Italy through the tunnel. Spectacular scenery - well worth it if you have the time or the inclination.
Also, you can get to Genoa in under 9 hours on the train nowadays via Eurostar. Then local inter city services to Bologna/Pisa/Verona etc....
Rimini is easily do-able from Venice btw.Comment

I think he meant 2 hours from venice to rimini, I have done that trip in reverseon a bike but stopped for lunch on the way, reckon its nearer 3 hours than 2 with a comfort break but a lovely driveits New Era number 8 i tell thee, bring on the fireworksComment

When I come to London start from Orio (Bergamo). But once I came to London by car.
