Couldn't get into a Premier League team, and went off to Turkey to learn his trade.
Much like Simpson has with us.

If Simpson goes on to be half the player Les was, I'd be quite surprised.

To try and compare Taarabt at this early stage to any of our top past players is a joke.
Ferdinand was booed pre Besiktas sent out to build his confidance up
Football played the Charlie Ferris way

The younger fans will be impressed by the juggling and the trickery, however those with a good knowledge of the game and the benefit of years have seen through the gimmicks he brings to the game and will only appreciate him if and when he becomes the real deal.
He has a long long way to go before that can be said.

He played 3 games for QPR, before he went to Brentford and Turkey on loan.

I think Adel gets frustrated by the quality of players around him. Wouldn't you? You do something brilliant, you pass it to Ramage and it bounces off his shin to an opponent.

I love to see nutmegs and dragbacks and all the rest. I want to see players doing things I could never do. I don't want to see the ball lumped down the channels - I can go to the local park for that.

As I said in an earlier thread. I want to be entertained for my money.

Think you'll find Ferdinand was not booed pre Besiktas.
Not that i can recall anyway.
However even if he was he never threw his rattle out of the pram and asked to be taken off.
He would have dusted himself down and got on with his job!
I would love Taarabt to be a success with us just havn't seen much to say he will.

there is n o real comparison but if you are making one then Taraabt is probably closer to Marsh than Bowles. Bowles was a much better and more effective team player than Marsh and had a fantastic picture of the game in play but Marsh probably had the greater individual ability in terms of ball skills.

Much has been made of the stick Taraabt has got this season but really it has been pretty mild, if he really wants to know what its like to be unappreciated by QPR supporters he should go back and spend a season in Mick Leach's boots!

Mate thats a contradiction, confirming something as fact then stating only as far as your recollection

No to my recollection. Les's game time amounted to about 60 mins at Highfield Road before being sent to Turkey. Sent away to build himself up, not get away from perceived boo boys IIRC.

Didn't see Marsh but Bowles was a completely different kettle of fish to Taarabt. It's like comparing chalk and cheese. Stan had bundles of pace, was two footed, a team player and had the vision and mental aptitude to look up and PASS THE FOOTBALL. Sad to say, Taarabt has none of these attributes to marry up with his undoubtedly excellent technical individual ability. One stop up from one of those lads who does a million and one keepy uppys..

Whilst that seems harsh, Stan was probably, along with Kenny Dalglish, the best domestic footballer I've seen.

I'll go further, the 70's had far more talented players than we have today, look at the goalkeepers, there were a dozen or more better than the three that are going to the world cup and I'd think that goes for every position. Taarabt should be delighted to even be compared to two of our all time greats
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble
Into the arms I love the most

I would liken Taraabt to a young Gascoigne. Oodles of skill - not huge pace, but used what he had to great advantage in conjunction with the skill - leaving many a faster player in his wake.
Knowing when to pass and just as important at the higher levels - where a certain player likes it to be passed. Some like to feet, some ahead, some behind so they can turn off the marker.
Not sure the Simpson's of this world even know themselves where they want it played.
An older experienced striker coupled with a pacey one would suit AT.
