  • Owen Hargreaves - world cup squad

Rumour that he is being considered. What are everyone's thoughts on this?
Argument from Terry Butcher is that players like Carrick should be in for Barry as they've played all season and slogged their guts out to get in the squad.

Well, in the big european games, Carrick seems to go missing. Hargeaves on the other hand (until his injury) was a proven big game player. I'd say take a punt and include Hargreaves. If he stays fit and performs as he can, we have a player who is up there with the best in his position. Better that then have another average player like carrick.

if he had been playing then he would 100% be in my squad cos i think he is a class player but only having played 1 minute of football in the last 18months i dnt know how he can be considered.

Why Hargreaves. He has played one game and has been out for far too long!!

I'd much rather see Scotty Parker involved. Energetic, ball winning playmaker who'll always give it his all. He has leadership qualities, making him an influential character in the dressing room, and on the field. He is also capable of getting a goal out of nothing.

Hargreaves, as much as you can't fault his effort, is a bit like a headless chicken. I wouldn't be dissapointed if he went as he'll give us some teeth, but I'd rather have Parker.

wrote out my squad earlier this afternoon and all of them bar ashley young were in the 30, got keepers n strikers all correct

think the following should be dropped for the final squad - upson, warnock, king, carrick, huddlestone, wright-phillips and parker. if barry is injured then he drops and parker goes

Huddlestone is no where near good enough-king should be kept as back up-carragher is too slow and is finished at the top level

                  I really rate Hargreaves.

You should always take a small risk and he could prove his fitness over the next 2 friendlys. He really impressed me in Germany and is like someone said a very big game player. The main man for us in the last world cup and would the gamble, better than carrick and Barry. Also naturally great stamina which he impressed me with.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

agree with all that. Huddlestone over Hargreaves is a shocker

I agree with what you are saying but the guy is worth a gamble.

Last world cup in the sweltering heat he covered every blade of grass, IMHO fitter than a beckham is his prime. The guy is naturally very fit and I don't think it would be a massive risk plus he wouldn't have to play 90mins. Proved to me that he has more bottle than any england player and that includes Gerrard who isn't knocking down trees on current form.
