Good player, but there's better out there. He's not a goalscorer.

16 goals in 98 games for Plymouth and 19 in 91 for Exeter before that,is hardly worth writing home about. We should raise the bar on our expectations and ambitions.

Mmmm, not quite the impressive goalscoring record we are looking for.

        I bet he is cheap.

First post I'm afraid but I have just been in the company of someone who took a call whilst I was in his presence from a major investor in the club.....

                  Warnock in on Monday

He was spot on with that and have no reason to disbelieve now. What I am led to believe is that Mackie was at the club last Friday to sort things out and then went on holiday. The deal will be finalised and announced on his return.

A couple of decent responses from Plymouth fans.

Jesus. You people really are utter *****s. Jamie Mackie ran and ran and ran and ran trying to carve out his own opportunities all last season. If he'd had 100 perfect crosses last season and missed them all, I'd agree. The fact is, he didn't. He played in a really awful side and most of his chances, he made himself.

There isn't another player who put in more effort than Jamie Mackie last season and if we'd had eleven of him in the side, we wouldn't have gone down - he gave everything last season.

In a better footballing side, he will score goals - he has natural pace, his attitude is a never say die one and he'll run through walls if you ask him to - what more do you people want from a player?

                      and

Mackie has been a good player for us and I will be sorry to see him go. His 100% attitude and his fitness levels provide us with a player who is able to harry the opposition defence for 90 minutes. Whilst this may not seem like much of an asset to some on here it most definitely is, and it is one that not many players possess. He has been unfortunate to play in a pretty dour and uncreative team at Argyle and I'd expect him to score more in a team where he doesn't have to create all of his chances himself.

Before people #### him off for being a headless chicken just remember how totally ineffective our team has looked this season without him in it. He would have been an asset to us in League 1 and will be an asset to many a Championship side.

Sounds like a good team man. Hope to see him make the most of his chance under Warnock.

I do also have good vibrations regarding this signing. Seems to be a hard working player. And most importantly he is fast. Better to work with a player with speed than a player without it. I bet the gaffer is looking forward to work on his weak sides.

                            My thoughts too!

Neil Warnock obviously sees enough quality in the lad to deem him worth buying and I trust Warnock's judgement. His stats do look poor but perhaps Warnock can get some more goals out of him or perhaps he is not being signed as a goal scorer. Perhaps Warnock thinks he will offer something different to other forwards we have at the club or are inound!

When I attended the Platinum Evening Warnock made it clear he needed 3 types of striker.

                              A target man (Hulse/Stead?)
A Jay Simpson type (Hooper probably fits into this category)
A smaller quicker snappier kind of striker (I guess Mackie fits into this category)

I feel he is the one who is bought in order to run at defences and create space for others. I am also of the impression that he can be used on the wing as well??
