True mate but he has been at the helm of Man U for 23 years whilst during that period El Tel has been in and out of jobs with his last club job 7 odd years ago. Like I said previously im not against El Tel, just if he was to be installed as manager I think he'd need the help of a younger coach to keep things fresh.

I would tend to agree with you and that man should be Garry Waddock, Rangers through and through and an excellent coach who got on well with Venners. Many will look at GW's last time but it was too early for him plus he was let down by certain players but he certainly wantedus to play the right way. Witha little bit of money they would get us singing again.

I really hope this is true. I cannot think of a better coach who Ainsworth could learn from. Also, Tel was the last QPR manager to get us Promoted to the top division!

The Venables team of 82/83 was far more akin to Sousa's tactics than ANYTHING free flowing. Not sure if many on here were old enough to recall those days but one of our most sung chants at the time was "offside offside, offside offside". TV had the offside trap working like a well oiled machine. Neill, Wicks, Fenwick and Dawes had it down to an art form. Especially at home on the plastic. Away game were far better to watch in those days. Functional but not pretty. Certainly not England 96 if anyone was hoping for that.

NB - the game when we sealed the title (away at Sheff Weds) we were booed off having suffocated the life out of the game and won 1-0 (Mike Flanagan!). Not saying it's wrong or bad.....but anyone remarking on Sousa being boring and defensive only needs to look back 25 years

i remember singing, "were the barmy off side army" many a time. But would never say it was boring as we won most of the time, and on our day play many team off the park (spurs cup final for an example).

We did play the offside in the early days but we also played some pretty good stuff going forward too. Stainrod, Byrne, Allen, Curry all had plenty of skill. Hazel, Wicks and Roeder were very solid at the back and in 83 we thumped our nearest challengers at LR. I thought we won promotion against Fulham at LR but could be wrong. Perhaps I just remember the good times but scoring 4 up at Newcastle in 82 wasn't that boring for the 90 odd of us that went.

We got a spanking in the first game. Hucker saved us. Lucky to get the replay but yep far better team in the 2nd game. We were more entertaining to watch on grass. Some of the games on plastic were as dull as ditchwater.

It was a great team, as much due to Venables organisation and tactics as the actual players. But I agree with Jim, Marc and others that he has been out of the game for quite a time to be left in sole charge. Not sure him and Ainsworth really cut it. Agree him and Pearce or some similar combo wd be brilliant.

Promotion sealed at LR v Leeds. Remember it kicking off properly in SAR Block A a proper old dear was taking out Leeds finest on her own with the wrong end of an umbrella! - Paul Hart own goal. Title sealed at Wednesday. Remember being severely ****ed on the minibus back! Fulham home game (2-1 that realistically killed off their promotion IIRC?) in between the two. From memory, might need wiki'ing
