  • A Simpson conudurum?

Would seem to me NW doesn't think massively highly of him?

I think his form dipped further after the physical presence comments etc made by NW and "if we'd had their strikers" comment after Leicester particularly.

Don't really follow that myself. Simmo has got a dozen or so goals in a struggling team, been dropped and played out of position for weird reasons and does hold the ball up very well in my opinion. Surely he needs a partner and not to be sent back?

NW comments mention getting his strikers sorted and I hope one of those is Jay but NW is da man and suppose he knows best.

    Roll on August...........
I need some time in the sunshine, I gotta slow it right down.

TBH since Warnock has been hear he's been poor so it's hardly surprising that he hasn't been impressed with him!

Warnock knows he's the top goal scorer - there must be more to it than that

I must admit, i've not been very impressed with him for some time now. Its a tough one, he is still so young and definetly has an eye for goal, with the right strike partner he could definetly improve on his 13 goals next season. Thing is, how much would Arsenal want for him? i wouldn't pay over 750k.

From Warnocks comments though it looks like he is going back.

There are better players than Simpson and he has been crap for a long time now and if we could only buy one striker, would it be Simpson or Hooper

I think Simpsons form dipped when Ikeme started launching rockets into space every match, he also has had an injury which sidelined him a bit during Warnocks arrival.

Well the long ball doesn't suit him as he isn't big enough, he really needed a strong stiker playing with him.

All this chit chat of long ball nonsense is really starting to pee me off and if the ball is always going long, How is two ball managing to do his runs ?

Simpson's problem is he does not know how to stay in the middle and play of the last defender. So many times the ball is played across the face of the goal and no one is there to tap it in. If Kevin Phillips was playing for us this season, he would have had 20-30 goals, as he knows where to do his stuff, Simpson dont.

He's not a six-yard box type of player. He plays off the shoulder, making runs in the channels. As people have said he needs a target man to feed off flick ons, through balls etc.

If that's the case, who's shoulder is he playing off when the ball is rolling across the face of the goal ?

Why play two ball behind him then ?

What if both CB's are around the six yard box, where is he ? and that's why he wont be here next year.

I think Mr Mason is being a little harsh on this one.

He hasn't really had the support of a 2nd striker.
2 ball is not a 2nd striker so he is basically playing the lone man.
Not an easy thing to do in a struggling team.
Would Hooper have scored 16 goals without his strike partner paul Hayes?
Simo will improve and if given a decent striker and not selfish 2 balls then he would score goals.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

I dont think I am being harsh at all, I have eyes and whenever the ball rolls across the front of the goal, our MAIN striker is no where near it. Warnock has stated on several occasions we need strikers so maybe he is seeing the same thing. If Simpson stayed in the middle of the pitch and played of the last defender, he would score more goals.

Because as I say he's not a six-yard box goal poaching type of striker, where the skill is in timing runs perfectly into the box, and being able to escape your marker.

We are passed the improvement stage as we are now at the proven stage.
