the other thing i would do is to con vert buzsacky to striker because he
can hit a ball better than bowles or marsh and his goalscoring abilities are wasted in midfield
so next season we want to once more see the same format gerry francis once used four strikers fighting for two positions

We've no reason to sell our best players any more. We can make money by allowing those surplus to requirement to leave. We have owners in this league who are poorer than our own and even they are prepared to stretch to spending 2-3m on some decent players while retaining their best players.

As for Adebola, I think he is a better version of Agyemang but would not see the point of offering him a 2 year contract at 34 years old.

I hope we bring in someone like McGoldrick and keep Blackstock.

Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million

Totally agree! Roberts will probably stay as they'll lose Santa Cruz in the summer. Let's hope United don't sell Campbell.

Wont shed any tears over Adabola - him and helguson wd have given our front line a combined age of about 66. I mean, I realise we need experience in this league, but...

Two of Cox, Campbell and Lita wd give us a strike force to match most clubs in this division I'd have thought. But hasn't Campbell played in Europe for Spurs this season having been loaned out by the biggest and best club in the world. I realise first team opportunities are going to be limited for him at Man U and he has now slipped down the pecking order behind that young striking sensation but wd he really move down to the Championship? Wouldn't a Stoke or a Wigan take him? And, to ask the hard question, are we really ambitious enough to get him?

You are right. He has had a taste of Premiership and European football so he'll want more. He won't go to a team like Spurs again as he won't get matches but someone like Wigan after losing Heskey and Zaki going AWOL need strikers. If Ferguson doesn't sell him and wants him to get regular games then we could be an option. There is always Jay Simpson, Carlos Vela and Danny Wellbeck who are also all young and likely to not get many games next season.

Agree with that (again, sorry...) but we've seen in recent weeks even with all that apparent embarrassment of riches manchester united have been reduced to picking young reserves because with all these competitions they are in the players grow jaded. I think Briatore has been v astute getting gd young players on loan from big clubs but the danger is that if we have a striker who has knocked in 20 goals by march he will be recalled just at the business end of the season. That is why I'd be happy if we signed cox and lita. if we get anyone else in on loan that cd be treated as a bonus.

Now Forest are safe I think Blackstock will be sold so we are left with Vine, Helguson, Balanta and Agyemang. Vine can play behind the front man but is not an out and out striker or target man. Helguson is the same. He shouldn't lead the line but play behind and go past a target man. Agyemang is a target man but not a particularly good one (i.e. he doesn't score or create enough goals to warrant a starting place) and Balanta is inexperienced. If we play 4-4-2 and retain all of our strikers then Vine and Helguson should compete for one place IMO. While we have nobody good enough to compete for the other position. Vine and Helguson could play in the same team but that's like starting with Heskey and Crouch it just doesn't work as well as Heskey with Rooney or Crouch with Rooney.

With all this in mind I think we need two strikers who are natural goalscorers who will link up with Vine/Helguson. Lita, Beckford, Campbell, Tudgay, McGoldrick would all improve the strikeforce.

If people believe Vine's best position is coming in from the left then we need another "thinking" forward like Tommy Smith or Andy Gray - someone who can create space, pull defenders out wide and set up goals as well as contribute 10-12 goals themselves.

I wouldn't sell Blackstock unless we got £2m for him and with that we could bring in Lita for free, McGoldrick for £1m-£1.2m and Andy Gray for £750k.

Spot on, except 1) though Lita wd be technically free I think we need to accept there is bound to be a hefty signing on fee and mega salary so if the board were to get him it wd be far from a "bargain basement" option - though still worth every penny IMHO and 2) if Vine's best position is behind a more out and out striker won't he be occupying quite similar space to Buz? Personally I'd like to see us playing - obviously not quite to the same level - as Man Utd do: they just have v gd attacking players. Are Rooney and Ronaldo strikers/ attacking midfielders/ wingers? no one minds, they bomb forward and back

Jason Roberts would be a great addition as he would get us a good few goals but would also be a good support front man as well!

True about Lita I'm not sure how much it would be but even say £1m plus £1m a year in salary would be worth it if he scores 15+ goals which he has the quality to do.

Vine would operate in the space like Van Persie does for Arsenal while they still have Fabregas playing the Buzsaky role so I don't think it would be a problem.

I think of all the realistic names mentionned Roberts would be my priority. He is an effective targetman (like Adebola) holds the ball up well (like Adebola) but seems to be a great blend of a physical targetman and a fox in the box type player. He plays with a lot of controlled agression which sees him getting into great positions. A younger (probably better) version of Paul Furlong, if we were to sign him my perception of next season would change dramatically
