...On the assumption that we avoid relegation, which is not a foregone conclusion ( I personally think we'll only get another 3 points to the end of the season),we will obviously need cosiderable team rebuilding if we are to mount a serious promotion challenge next season.Which players already playing for the R's (loanees or not) do you see as being the foundation of a good team for 2010/11? before any new additions - in other words who is good enough to keep?

    I'll start....

    Ikeme

    Leigertwood

    Faulin

Buzsaky (providing he can find his earlier form and desire (make him captain?)

    Taarabt (but not for £4.5m)

    Cook

    Stewart/Gorkss (not both)

    Ephraim

    Vine (worth one more season?)

Simpson (although I do not rate him as much as some people do - best of a bad bunch)

Ramage (for shear endeavour and approach to the cause).

Ikeme No, can't be dealing with watching him trying to send the ball into orbit every week.

    Leigertwood Squad Player

    Faulin

Buzsaky (providing he can find his earlier form and desire (make him captain?) Are you serious??????

    Taarabt (but not for £4.5m)

    Cook

    Stewart/Gorkss (not both)

    Ephraim

Vine (worth one more season?) Worth shooting

Simpson (although I do not rate him as much as some people do - best of a bad bunch)

Ramage (for shear endeavour and approach to the cause).
It will take Warnock 2 seasons to rebuild, too many Paladini crap signings to mention.

For me the only players good enough to ensure a top 2 finish baring in mind serious investment of £10-£15m are

      Faurlin
      Taarabt
Gorkks (will be better when surrounded by a better defence)
      Cook (Squad player)
Rowlands (dep on return prob squad player)
      Stewart (squad player)
      Leigertwood (squad player)
Simpson (bordering squad player based on yesterday, on overall season he's a starter for me)

      The rest aren't good enough.

So, we need at least 1 first team goaly, at least 2 full backs, another midfielder, at least 1 good wide man like Routledge and a striker. This is the minimum requirement.

Don't think any of the loan players will be with us next season.Think we need to get 8 or 9 players in, other than Gorkks and Faurlin think the rest are only squad players if we are going to be in the top 2.

So you wouldn't keep Connolly or German or Balanta ?
Nor Rowlands & Mahon even if they fully recovered ?

            I would, all 5.

              A broken leg, 2 ACL's and aged 31.

Medical science dictates that his best days are now behind him.

But I'd love him to defy the odds of course!

Would keep Rowlands and release Mahon.Only need 1 old or injury prone midfielder.Plus i think he is good for the dressing room.Keep as a squad player with a view to moving onto a coaching role in the future.

I think what is worrying is that when you look at how many players we are going to have to get in to mount a serious promotion push next season the rumoured £10m isn't going to go very far in getting the quality of players that we need and probably isn't going to be enough.

I'd keep Buszacky, Cook, Faurlin, Connolly, Ephriam, Cerney, for the first 11, Leggs, Rowlands, Balanta and German as squad players and let the rest go. Bring in Taarabt, Simpson, Lambert, Lita, Ambrose, and our old keeper Lee Camp from Forest or Speroni just to start with
22nd February away v Charlton is the 40th Anniversary of my support of QPR and my first game. Away v Chelsea 3-3 23rd Feb 1974. 40 years of pure magic!!

I think these players are only ones who would now get in the Newcastle and WBA teams/matchday squad:

Connolly(starter/bench), Tarrabt (starter/bench), Faurlin (bench), Buzz (start/bench), Cook - if properly fit, time will tell (start/bench).

If we're totally honest with ourselves, these are the only ones who would genuinely be able to play in those teams, and if we want to emulate those teams then we need players of this calibre and better. Man for man, we are so much weaker. There's no point even banging on about other decent championship players as potential targets (some of the Palace lot just aren't good enough). If I was in charge I'd write out a 4-4-2 formation on paper of the best championship XI (not inc. those going up) and under each of those names write 2 other names in order of preference, so 3 for each position. I'd then add names under each position of someone we could genuinely get from Premiership who might be better, and ditto from League 1 as a future star. I'd also make sure we had at least 3 'captains' on the pitch at any time.

After writing this, I'd look at how much this would cost, prioritising which positions we needed most, and who we could get. We all know contracts mean nothing these days, it is purely about budget, Warnock's man management skills plus the ambition of the club and it's London location.

We might then end with a team that coould challenge for top two places, and a solid squad of players to compete and also replace when needed. Added to the above names I mentioned, I'd also keep:

                        German - real potential.
Ramage - Back-Up/potential late bloomer: I think he is really improving under Warnock, evidence of which in the last 3-4 games.
Balanta - I think he deserves a go up front in 3 games this season.
Stewart or Gorkss (Stewart is more suited to Warock's style of play, Gorkss is losing one of his main qualities as he is not allowed to pass it out of the back at the moment)
Ikeme - certainly good enough to be 2nd choice, and seems to have potential

I have probably forgotten someone. I'd try to sell the following to bolster transfer funds and reduce needless wages:

Legs - flatters to deceive, would get a fee.
Hall - might have some value now
                        Helguson - off to Watford
Hogan - I think he is a mid-table Championship player at his absolute best, he doesn't create, he is too average in too many areas of his game. He never gets past a man and doesn't cross like Cooky can. Would probably get a fee.
Pat - just get rid, he isn't up to the job unfortunately

Mahon - I like him, and feel that because he has never been quick, he isn't losing much with age. He never relied on pace. I'd hope he comes back well, he would be a great peson in the squad and definitely a player that could add to the team.
Rowly - Need to see how he comes back. Fingers crossed.

Of the loanees, I mentioned Ikeme above, but I feel Simpson is back-up level at top of this division, unless he improves his know-how. He is sometimes on completely the wrong side of the pitch. If our right-back has it, he is miles away on the left, out of position, not offering an option. He also isn't that quick. He has done quite well, and is young, depends on price. Tarbs would be great but we have to consider what options we could get with that money... Hill, I don't think he is good enough personally. Priskin, not good enough. Bent could have been, given the chance...? Where is he?

Our obvious main target areas are: 2 forwards (inc a target man), a goalkeeper, a defensive CM who is a leader, a leader centre-half, left back (depending on Tosic), and I think a right winger. Then probably a right back.

I'd like to see someone like Simon Church who (for some strange reason) is rotated at Reading, as a forward or the excellent Shane Long. I think he has Premiership potential. Nicky Butt would be fantastic. Kilgallon at centre back with Connolly. Speroni in goal perhaps.

                          maybe buzz
maybe rowly and mahon if fully fit
                          cook

                          ramage,borrowdale,vine,hogan??,cerny?? legs? could be released
all the loans go back and we build from a solid "spine" thru the team with "Our" players.
the loans are ok but we've had too many....

I agree with Stanley- excellent post Stedders, although our opinions may differ on Ephraim and choice of potential incoming strikers.
