  • My Honest Assessment..Of tonights Game

This was poor game from two pretty poor teams. We got off to a very good start and could easily have been 2-0 up in the first 7 minutes, a couple of very good shots outside the area which skided on the wet surface. We allowed Derby back in. They did their homework on Tarrabt who was man marked by Savage, and all night he didn;t really get pass him. Adel got frustrated, but was responsible for laying on some good passes, one to Simpson and one which led to the goal for Cook. The goal came on the stroke of half time and it came minutes after a tactical switch by Warnock, because for much of the half, Cook played on the right !! First half was full of poor performances, none more so than Gorkss who couldn't find a rangers shirt with any of his passing. If it had been Ramage making those passes he would have got booed from the masses.

Second half we did not start well and on the back foot. Not sure why Simpson was moved out to wide right, as when ever he moves out to the wings he is incredibly ineffective and we were playing into the hands of Derby. Savage pretty much controlled the midfield and when the ball was not ending up in midfield, we tended to kick the ball miles up into the air. Not pretty and extremley ineffective, as we didn't have the height to win the balls, until German came on. Derby deserved the equaliser and was concerned they would go on and win it.

Fair play to the Rangers faithful because after 75 minutes much of the crowd then started to get behind the team and we played probably our best football. Vine hits the bar and we have plenty of shots on goal either blocked by defenders or saved by Bywater. We still decided to pump the ball in the air much of the time and I'd expect we might see more of this in months to come.

Today Warnock was tactically undone by a younger Clough, he got his tactics spot on, whereas we tended to play into Derby;'s hands. Okay some will point to German's shirt being pulled or the referree making some wrong decisions, but I'd rather look at the bigger picture. In the summer, we needa big clearout, I'd consider offers for all defenders accept Connolly and maybe Gorkss, Faurlin I still think is class and Cookie is coming good, you can add Tarrabt and Simpson (played in his rightful position) and you have 6 players that are good enough to take us to the next level. That goes to show what is needed in the summer if we are to be serious candidates for promotion next season.

I'm not including German because he is very young and will improve and needs to stay with us and hopefully Rowlands coming back to this best. Players like Legiterwood, Stewart, Hogan and even Buzsacky would be good squad players, but wouldn't be in my first 11 next season. If we cannot beat Derby this season with the Warnock effect, then next season when the effect wears off a little, it will be extremely difficult if changes are not made.

We are still to play the football that I so much enjoyed back in October, in fact we are a long way off it.

We cannot play "The Warnock Way" with the players we have.
Well, we can... but not very well.

He relies heavilly on full backs, and ours are pony. He needs two.
He relies on a strong, mobile centre forward to play off... and ours is 12 years old. (good prospect, no more)

If he's going shopping in the summer, he'll need a bigger trolley.

Pretty much spot on Pete I don't think any took more than one touch in the whole second half just punt after punt! Derby were there for the taking and were a poor uncreative side. We played into their hands second half especially by trying to join in with their hoof ball!

As you said BIG clearout needed a lot of very average players at this club, we don't score enough and we aren't good at the back!

We really do need a big clearout in the summer. We need a keeper to start with. Of the defenders only Connolly is worth keeping. In the midfield, only Cook, Faurlin and possibly Buzsaky are good enough. Up front we just don't have anyone worth keeping at all. I am talking about the first eleven only here. I know we will need to retain some as squad players.

As painful as it is to admit I agree with all that.

He was poor, should have won us the game as well had he kept it hard and low.

Not good enough, get him off the wage bill.

I wouldn't blame him for that, it was a good strike and unlucky to hit the bar.

Wish you would get your head out his backside and face the reality in that he is rubbish.

A good striker would have buried it hard and low at the far post, Vine had no direction on the ball whatsoever. In a game of few clear cut chances you have to tuck those ones away, poor miss IMO and cost us 3 pts.

need large intake of players for next season if we want to have a hope of doing anything...we have 3 or 4 good players and the rest are poor squad players at best that we seem to be stuck with on longish contracts...cant see us getting Simpson or Taarabt next season. Helgusson and Agyemang coming back?

Tarrabt isn't as great as u think mate. Although he will win the most inconsistent player of the season award so congrats to him.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!
