  • Can lightning strike twice....

Interesting comparison stat from the season NW joined Palace.

We are 15th with 11 games to go with 44 points-
(6th place team has 52 points)
(we have a game in hand on most of the teams above us)

They were 11th with 12 games to go with 46 points
(6th place team had 52 points).
(most of the teams had a game in hand on Palace)

Their final 12 games went as thus:

    March
    Sat 1 15:00 A Preston W
    Tue 4 20:00 H Cardiff City D
    Sat 8 15:00 H Colchester W
    Wed 12 19:45 A WBA D
    Sat 15 15:00 H Barnsley W
    Sat 22 15:00 A Sheffield Wed D
    Sat 29 15:00 H Blackpool D
    April
    Mon 7 20:00 A Stoke City W
    Sat 12 15:00 H S****horpe W
    Sat 19 15:00 A Watford W
    Sat 26 15:00 A Hull L
    Sun 4 14:00 H Burnley W

    7 wins, 4 draws, 1 defeat.
They finished 5th on 71 points.

NW had not been in charge that long and achieved this not long after his appointment.
Now im not saying it is likely to happen, and if we lose to Reading i think we can put some closure on this, but it is uncanny how similar the situations are.

He said in the press conference yesterday that he's going out to win every game. Without doubt at the back of his mind he wants to go for it but admits that his hands are partly tied due to the loan quota.

So following the results the same as the above, we are only due a Draw but would be nice to get a win.
            Agree, uncanny.

the test of whether the club really believe its possible is if they bring in a top striker of Kitson style quality in place of Priskin. If they do it might still be worth a 15/1 kinda bet. If not it suggests to me they are shutting up shop for next season.

he has also said - I wish I'd got here a few games earlier - if he had we would be nailed on by now with wins against the likes of Posh, Ipswich and Scunny.

Middlesboro are still in the frame with every chance of the playoffs, yet we are only four points behind them with a home game against Watford in hand....

Spot on. 4 or 5 games earlier, then it could of been VERY interesting.

Agreed, beginning for February would have been interested.

I think at the back of his mind, he thinks its possible. He will be canny and say its unrealistic to make sure the players have a level head. I don't think we will lose many games until now and end of season and acttually think we will get a result at Reading, but its longsot to say the least to dream of a Top 6 spot and I pretty optimistic most of the time.

It won't take 74 points this season, think more like 68/69 for that 6th spot, but so many teams are above us. Reading fans would still be believing they can do it.

This time next Wednesday the picture will be clearer no less than 7 points from the 3 games is what is required to keep the dream alive, anything less than that it becomes all about avoiding relegation, which I think we will easily do.

Agreed, particularly with a bit of reverse psychology from the gaffer but I'm not so sure about Reading, who seem to be on a proper roll at the moment.
If (big if) we can get a result there I will start to look seriously at the options so here's to a clean sheet, some goals and 3 points on Tuesday then

even if w got 2 playoffs with NW in charge dont think we would beat any1 in those playoffs unless we get a decent striker in 2 partner simpson and then who knows but would b great. And if we did get there and didnt go up i think we would b favourites 2 go up next year with the quality NW would hopefully bring in

It means getting results against the likes of Reading, Swansea, Cardiff, Leicester, Preston and Barnsley - all of which are possible and if we do get there I don't see any reason to fear the opposition as we can beat them all with the team we have. We are starting to score goals and more importantly, create chances again as well as compete 100% for lose balls in the middle and the defence is tightening up too - so whilst a quality aide for Simpson would be great, we can do it with the lot we have.
