I'll be honest and tell it how I see it, Connolly is not our best centre half. You can criticise Stewart as much as you want but he always ends up back in the side as does Gorkks, every single manager we've had has not opted for Connolly as there first choice centre half.

I don't think Connollys game has progressed really since he has joined and I do think his performances are viewed with rose tinted specs by a lot of supporters. He's half decent but and I would love to see him step up and was convince he would this season but he just hasn't in my opinion but with Warnock at the club this may change.

Just being a realist the lad had been our 3 choice sometimes 4th choice centre half for a long time now.

Personally I would like to see him adapt his game as a holding midfielder.

      Faurlin
      Buzsaky
      Rowlands if fit
      Cook
      Gorkss
      Connolly
      Simpson, if he stays
German should get better under Warnock's management.

I even think that Mahon (for his experience could be useful too)
Vine could be, but he needs to regain his fitness and confidence. A summer loan move to a Scandinavian league club could help him.

Perhaps, I'd keep Leigertwood as a squad player and it might be interesting to see how Ephraim improves under Warnock. The same applies to Balanta.

I do wonder if Conners versatility has hindered his progress , in that hes always being switched from LB to CB to RB to CM and so on...

For me, I think he's been unlucky and I wouldn't take too much notice of him not being picked as 1st choice. The lad has either been injured, or had an illness (glandular fever) which has knocked his fitness. Another unfortunate sittuation for Matt is that he's versatile, whereas Stewart isn't. Far from it in fact. We have no good full backs, but Connolly can play LB or RB better than anyone at the club.

I honestly believe that as soon as we sign two decent FullBacks, we'll see Connolly back in the center. He is one of the best readers of the game I've seen here in years. He may not be the fastest, but like Tony Adams...he doesn't need to be. Great in the air, great with the ball at his feet, superb distribution and a born leader. He organises the back four as if he is the captain.

Again...just my opinions, but he has been extremely unlucky of late.

I do see your point and this is no doubt what makes him a good player but on the flip side managers may regard Connollys ability as good enough for a place in the defence but not good enough to hold down a regular place at Centre Half see where I'm coming from.

I have no doubt Connollys development as a player has also been hindered by Paladini signig something like 5/6 centre halves.

plus the fact that he has had how many managers in his short time here.that cant help anyone's progression as a footballer having a different manager every few months.

But my argumeny also is when he has played centre half he has looked far from oustanding IMO.

The glandular fever would have knocked him for 6, but I still hold my reservations, next season it will be Gorkks/Stewart plus a new centre half.

New Goalie is a must as well as Walkonby says.

i still think connolly has the potential to be the best player at the club.been a tough season for him with injuries and illnesses.if he cant play centre back we still need to have him on the team and if that means playing RB OR LB than im happy with that.
